Unit Summary:

THP is a Regional Cardiac Program providing services and care in collaboration with our Regional Partners. 2C Cardiology is a 50-bed inpatient, acute care unit. We support a wide variety of complex cardiac patients, while working closely with Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Short Stay and Coronary Care Unit. We primarily focus on medical management and minimally invasive procedures to care for our patients in their unique care needs. We also support off-service patients with telemetry needs. We have a broad team of skilled, interdisciplinary professionals to support our patients, and ensure they receive the best care possible while in our care.

Qualifications:

THP is committed to internal talent, and therefore priority will be given to internal applicants.

  • Candidate will be a diploma graduate of a recognized college or school of nursing or equivalent (i.e. certificate RPN with added course in medication administration, phlebotomy and health assessment)
  • Registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or currently meet the eligibility criteria to register in good standing in the Temporary Class or General Class with the CNO
  • Current BCLS
  • Successfully completed the Coronary Care 1 course or committed to completing the course within the next six months
  • Minimum of 1-year acute care medicine/cardiac experience required
  • Telemetry experience preferred
  • A physical assessment course required
  • Recent experience with inpatient cardiology population preferred
  • Demonstrates knowledge, experience and the ability to care for patients with the following: initiation and maintenance of IV therapy, administration of medication above the drip chamber, blood and blood product administration, blood glucose monitoring, nasogastric tubes, wound management skills, routine and additional infection control precautions, normal and abnormal lab values
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) completion preferred
  • Previous experience in providing and delivering patients and families with educational teaching
  • Demonstrates excellence in communication skills and interprofessional team work
  • Demonstrates a strong ability to facilitate patient and family-centred care and establish therapeutic relationships
  • Evidence of on-going professional development
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge with EPIC and computer skills preferred A positive work and attendance record is essential
