About the role

The Opportunity

The Vice President Supply Chain Management (SCM) develops, refines and effectively implements Chartwell’s supply chain strategy in order to ensure that our properties receive the highest quality products and services at the best price. This position will direct the activities of the corporate supply chain management team and provide strategic input to the operating business platforms as well as other functional departments in relevant areas to improve the overall results of the company.

The successful candidate will have strong leadership and collaboration skills and will be a strategic supply chain expert with proven experience leading a team of supply chain specialists. In addition, the successful candidate will be a leader in driving administrative and technological efficiencies to optimize supply chain operations, enhance transparency, and drive continuous improvement. This position will also lead the integration of sustainability and ESG principles into supply chain and procurement processes, ensuring compliance with evolving regulations and stakeholder expectations.

It is expected that the Vice President - SCM will excel in the following key areas: development and application of supply chain metrics; leadership; organizational development; cross-enterprise integration; procurement resource management and development; process improvement; and relationship management.

Key Activities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead a disciplined supply chain management team focused on total cost effectiveness, enhanced service levels, intercompany coordination and risk compliance;
  • Assess existing supply chain systems, procedures and philosophies (including measurement methodology) for insight and opportunities for potential improvement;
  • Evaluate the adoption of technology solutions, supplier portals, and/or e-sourcing tools to streamline processes, enhance supplier collaboration, and improve spend visibility;
  • Develop processes, analytics and risk management tools that ensure all goods and services purchased meet defined quality standards; high internal customer satisfaction is maintained, inventory is optimized and supply chain disruptions are proactively addressed;
  • Work with a cross-functional team on acquisitions, dispositions and new property developments as it relates to supply chain initiatives;
  • Create a competitive negotiating environment to obtain purchase cost savings including leveraging Chartwell’s buying power;
  • Review bid proposals from suppliers and enter into contracts within budgetary limitations and subject to our Signing Authority and Delegation Policy;
  • Manage and develop team members.

Qualifications

Education:

Requires a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or other related field. A professional supply chain accreditation is desirable.

Professional Qualifications:

At least 15 years of progressive experience in managing functions and departments dealing with supply chain and sourcing issues in a large company, preferably health care and/or hospitality. Direct experience with mergers, acquisitions and developments and with implementing technology solutions would be considered a plus.

Five to seven years of direct leadership experience of supply chain professionals is required.

Bilingualism in French is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with:

  • Business principles and techniques of administration, organization and supply chain management. These include a general knowledge of supply chain, procurement and cost analysis and current business trends and developments in sourcing.
  • Experience with managing progressive supply chain functions. The ideal candidate should have a track record of enhancing the supply chain function as measured by reduced cost, improved quality and the implementation of successful sourcing strategies while reducing administrative burden.

Proven skills in:

  • Leadership and advocacy to improve the sourcing and supply chain performance of the business.
  • Analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with internal customers.
  • Written and oral communications; can articulate information clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles; ability to think on his/her feet; comfortable in informal meetings as well as more formal presentations.
  • Maintaining and developing relationships with logistical and supply chain support sources.
  • Negotiating with both internal and external groups; effectively settling differences with minimum disruption to relationships and the process.

Demonstrated ability to:

  • Create solutions by thinking outside of the box; ability to evaluate all sides of an issue and develop creative solutions to difficult problems;
  • Comprehend and effectively communicate complex, technical issues and subjects relating to procurement and sourcing; to a variety of audiences, including suppliers, peers, and senior management.
  • Act as a team player that motivates and leads other team members.
  • Organize and manage general managerial and administrative activities, including selecting and supervising staff, monitoring staff performance and evaluating department effectiveness.
  • Ability to multi-task and be deadline oriented.
  • Motivated by strong execution and results.
