Job Description RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position Summary Department / Research Program: Centre for Research in Neuroscience/Brain Repair and Integrative Neuroscience Program

A Research Assistant is a career researcher who assists a senior researcher. The duties of a Research Assistant must involve a substantial degree of intellectual initiative in the execution of his or her duties.

The duties involved in this job require viral injection of an opsin for the purposes of optogenetic activation of cells in the brain. Activated cells will be patch-clamp recorded and imaged using 2-photon laser-scanning microscopy. The incumbent is expected to have been trained in neuroscience, pharmacology, biochemistry. Evidence for proficiency in these fields could include scholarships, honors awards, a strong grade-point average, as well as strong letters of recommendation.

Under The Direction Of The Immediate Supervisor, The Incumbent

  • Work with the principal investigators to design and conduct projects focused on the implementation of evidence-based interventions to improve surgical outcomes in routine clinical practice,
  • Liaise with external collaborators,
  • Engage in administrative duties related to projects,
  • Assist with reports, manuscripts, and grant applications.

General Duties

  • AAV injection,
  • Brain dissection and acute slice preparation,
  • 2-photon microscopy,
  • 2-photon optogenetics.

Education: Master's Degree

Field of Study: Neuroscience

Other Education Considered An Asset For This Position Strong writing and analytical skills

Work Experience: 0-0.5 year

Required Skills

  • Excellent English and French, spoken and written,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Ability to work independently or with teams with minimum supervision.

Additional information

Status: Temporary, part-time (29 hours)

Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience. $27.32 - $50.74/hour

Work Shift: Variable Schedule: M-Th 9 am – 4 pm, F 9am – 3 pm

Work Site: MGH, 1650 Cedar Ave.
