About the role
We are partnering with a leading municipal infrastructure organization to recruit a Cost Estimating Engineer for a 12-month contract based in Calgary, Alberta.
This role will support a senior cost estimating function within a Capital Planning and Engineering team, contributing to a wide range of infrastructure projects and strategic capital planning initiatives. Working alongside experienced engineering and project delivery professionals, you will provide expertise in project cost estimating, methodologies, and best practices that support major capital investment decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Review existing cost estimates and provide recommendations for improvement across Class 5 through Class 1 estimates for a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects, including vertical, linear, and specialty construction. Support project and program estimating activities for major capital projects, including the development and refinement of estimating methodologies, frameworks, and processes. Develop, assess, and update project estimates while helping standardize estimating practices, key assumptions, work breakdown structures (WBS), owner costs, and related estimating documentation. Collaborate with Project Managers, engineers, and key stakeholders to deliver accurate, transparent, and reliable cost estimates for high-priority capital initiatives. Promote estimating excellence by supporting continuous improvement initiatives, knowledge sharing, and consistent estimating practices across project teams.
Qualifications & Experience
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Senior Project Engineer with a minimum of 3 years of experience preparing construction cost estimates across multiple estimate classes for horizontal, vertical, and/or specialty infrastructure projects. Strong knowledge of cost estimating methodologies, industry standards, and leading practices. Familiarity with project management and cost estimating frameworks such as PMI (Project Management Institute) and AACE International (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering), including cost estimating classifications, recommended practices, and project controls principles. Excellent technical writing, presentation, and communication skills. Strong organizational, collaboration, and customer service skills with exceptional attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and deliver results within tight deadlines. Ability to work on-site in downtown Calgary a minimum of three (3) days per week (Monday through Thursday). Available to work 35 hours per week.
