Join us as a Senior Staff Manufacturing Test Engineer in Technical Operations, where you’ll architect and implement the critical test systems that bring our groundbreaking robots—Spot, Stretch, and Atlas—to life. You’ll be the driving force behind the design, documentation, and deployment of sophisticated test equipment and software, ensuring excellence across supplier, in-house, and system-level production. By collaborating closely with our cross-functional teams in design, software, and quality, you’ll guarantee that our electromechanical assemblies meet the highest performance standards. You’ll also serve as a key technical guide for third-party partners, ensuring their testing solutions align with our world-class quality and innovation standards.

How You Will Make An Impact
Lead High-Stakes Test Development: Drive project management and design strategy for outsourced test development, ensuring our robotic systems exceed expectations. Champion Design for Test (DFT): Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate DFT best practices early, optimizing test coverage, fault isolation, and subassembly reliability. Scale Global Testing Operations: Take ownership of ODM/JDM functional test capacity and expansion planning to meet ambitious production targets. Define Operational Excellence: Create comprehensive documentation for test procedures, fixtures, and configurations, setting the standard for quality and consistency. Deliver Turnkey Solutions: Spearhead the delivery of end-to-end test solutions for both cutting-edge new robots and sustaining platforms. Drive Continuous Improvement: Analyze test data to unlock insights, directly influencing product quality and streamlining our testing ecosystem. Solve Complex Challenges: Utilize structured methodologies for hands-on, data-driven root cause analysis of electromechanical subsystems. Scale Support Infrastructure: Oversee the duplication, maintenance, and deployment of test stations for our critical repair and service teams. Empower Manufacturing Teams: Serve as the technical authority, training internal and external teams on advanced test equipment and debug processes. Cultivate Talent: Mentor engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.
Required Skills & Experience
BS or MS in Robotics/Electrical Engineering or equivalent and 8+ years of relevant experience. Experience in test software development using programming languages such as Python. Strong understanding of electromechanical and software engineering fundamentals. Solid working knowledge of basic electrical equipment, including digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies. Experience in selecting COTS or designing custom testing hardware based on engineering/manufacturing test requirements. Experience deploying and supporting test systems at domestic and international Contract Manufacturing sites. Test software development using programming languages such as Python in both Windows and Linux environments. Able to read electrical schematics and apply sound electrical/electronics fundamental knowledge to analyze designs. Comfortable with analog and digital test and debug techniques for medium to high complexity systems. Self-motivated and able to work in an ambiguous environment with minimal supervision.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout software using Altium or equivalent. Knowledge of circuit board manufacturing DfX and best practices. Experience designing moderate complexity electro-mechanical structures to be used in a production or customer-facing environment in CAD (Catia, NX, Solidworks, etc.). Experience with Linux operating systems. Comfortable interpreting and/or writing C++ code. Experience with lean manufacturing and/or six sigma. Familiarity with using a PLM (e.g. Arena).
Travel
Ability to travel up to 15% of the time including international travel.
The pay range for this position is between $134399.06 to $184,798.70 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors including, but not limited to internal equity, job related knowledge, skills and experience. This range represents a good faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Boston Dynamics offers a generous Benefits package including medical, dental vision, 401(k), paid time off and a annual bonus structure. Additional details regarding these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer for employment
