Description DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Administration
- Provides all aspects of administrative support including developing, implementing and evaluating:
- the research intake process and life cycle
- recruitment and support of research co-op students and volunteers and externs
- grants administration (including financial management and reporting)
- strategies by which to disseminate research findings and promote knowledge transfer and integration into practice
- intellectual property practices
- related policies and procedures
- Monitors and advises the organization regarding trends and issues in the research and academic sectors, health care system and political environments that are relevant to and/or have potential impact on the portfolio
- Facilitates effective use of the knowledge and professional skills of team members to advance the research agenda
- Manages the budget for the portfolio ensuring effective allocation of financial resources and compliance with financial reporting processes
- Proactively researches and disseminates information about specific grant programs and funding opportunities throughout the organization
- Coaches and supports individuals and research teams in their development of research proposals, study design, study management and evaluation
- Functions as Principal Investigator, Co-Investigator or research team member as appropriate
- Identifies potential legal and risk management issues and informs the Vice President
- Develops evaluation indicators for the research and academics portfolio and a mechanism by which to regularly collect, analyze and report the data
- Provides administrative oversight and leadership for the strategic development and daily administration of library services
- Develops and/or ensures the availability of educational programs and opportunities to support, enhance and evolve research and academic activities
- Recruits, mentors, evaluates and supports team members in a direct or indirect report relationship
- Advises and facilitates compliance with established standards for scientific merit and research ethics involving human subjects
- Manages regular and special activities for the portfolio including the Annual Research Day
- Promotes an organization-wide spirit of inquiry, curiosity and evidence-based practice improvement
- Responsible to recognize and report patient, staff and environment safety issues, identify and implement preventative and corrective actions, within the scope of this role.
Liaison
- Responds to external requests for information and assistance and acts as the initial contact for enquiries, concerns or complaints from research participants
- Networks with researchers and academics as well as with relevant national, regional, and international institutions to facilitate continued relevance of the academic/research program and a high profile for the organization
- Establishes and actively maintains close links with recognized research institutes and stakeholders
- Collaborates with institutions and scholars engaged in research relevant to Ontario Shores’ mission
- Develops, negotiates, implements and evaluates research collaboration agreements and annual service agreements with academic institutions in accordance with Ontario Shores’ policies and risk management requirements
- Actively promotes and enhances the reputation of the organization
QUALIFICATIONS And EXPERIENCE
- Master’s preparation is required in a health profession or health administration
- Minimum 7 years experience at a senior manager/director level
- PhD preparation is an asset
- A record of contributions to the advancement of knowledge in mental health, health sciences and/or patient safety through research and publications
- Experience in establishing, leading and/or managing research programs
- Previous clinical, academic and/or research experience in a mental health setting
- Capacity to develop effective relationships across professions and sectors
- Knowledge of relevant legislation
