Meal Program Worker - 20 hours

TITLE: SCHOOL MEAL PROGRAM WORKER - 20 hours DEPARTMENT: All Schools REPORTS TO: Principal or Designate WAGE: $25.71 - $26.98 hourly effective July 1, 2024
Summary Under general supervision the School Meal Program Worker works with school staff and nutritionist to plan menus and to prepare and/or serve food for the school's meal program.
The School Meal Program Worker works cooperatively with other staff, students and the public.
Duties
- Works with the school staff and nutritionist to plan menus based on Canada's Food Guide, ministry of Education guidelines and budget considerations.
- Cleans kitchen equipment and appliances as required.
- Restores kitchen equipment to cupboards, shelves and drawers.
- Shops for groceries required in the program.
- Prepares, cooks and serves food as required.
- Maintains inventories of supplies and equipment for meal program.
- Unpacks and stores food stuffs and supplies.
- Occasionally trains and supervises student helpers.
- Presents a well groomed appearance.
- Performs other food service functions or emergent duties.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, SKILLS (School Meal Program Worker)
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- Three months of hotel/restaurant/catering food preparation experience or equivalent.
- Ability to perform basic food services functions including good basic physical health.
- British Columbia Food Safe certification and a comprehensive understanding of health safety standards relative to food services sanitation.
- Knowledge of the SuperHost Program and front of the house operation would be an asset.
- Valid Class 5 British Columbia driver's license.
- Ability to use courtesy and tact in the explanation of and discussion of information in contacts with public, parents, staff and students.
- Ability to perform individually and as part of a team.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally.
- Ability to plan and schedule work and organize the workload effectively.
- Ability to work with constant interruptions and to improvise as required.
- Must enjoy working with appropriate school aged students.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Kitchen utensils, kitchen food handling and related equipment.
Physical Abilities
- Sufficient vision to operate computer.
- Fundamental ability to operate equipment
- Manual dexterity.
- Ability to lift and move materials and equipment up to 40 pounds.
