Life at ATB is about more than work. In fact, we’re consistently recognized as one of Canada's top employers thanks to our high-care, high-performance culture, upheld by the three commitments we make to our team members:

Impact in action: No matter where you are in the organization, you're empowered to make an impact in the lives of our clients and communities.

Thrive together: We want you—the unique, authentic you—to feel safe and celebrated at work. We're on a continuous journey to build the most flexible and inclusive programs.

Ready for tomorrow: We want to enable your success through interesting and challenging work, performance enablement, and learning and development.

About the Role

This position has a hybrid work arrangement. On average, this means 1 day on-site per week. Please note that this is subject to change due to business priorities.

As ATB’s next Security Developer you'll be a technical expert responsible for securing all client login processes to safeguard client identities while ensuring a smooth and secure digital experience. You'll achieve this by designing and building new authentication tools and features, resolving complex technical issues, and guiding other teams on secure practices.

The Security Developer will have a strong technical understanding of authentication and a collaborative approach to problem-solving. This individual should also be proactive, dedicated to continuous learning, and skilled in explaining complex issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Accountabilities

  • Manage and configure client login processes in Identity Providers, including single sign-on (SSO) and multi-factor authentication (MFA), to meet business and security needs.
  • Participate in designing, developing, testing, and integrating code into identity (IdP) systems to meet specific business needs.
  • Participate in authentication policy and code reviews for team members, ensuring code quality, security standards, and adherence to best practices.
  • Give recommendations for improving product security, solve issues related to integration and testing, and work with the product team to define technical requirements for future projects.
  • Assist in sharing technical requirements for secure integration with authentication systems and provide guidance to other teams on the implementation of features as a subject matter expert.
  • Investigate potential design and implementation vulnerabilities/security flaws.
  • Collaborate with team members on project delivery, offering guidance, and conducting troubleshooting sessions to unblock progress and ensure timely completion of work tasks.
  • Investigate and resolve issues related to authentication and user management and debugging complex authentication flows.
  • Act as an emissary of the Identity, Application and Offensive Security team working to promote strong partnerships with teams and stakeholders that are dependent on our services.

Skills, experience & requirements

Accreditations:

  • Have a minimum of 2 years of experience within an IT Enterprise field.
  • Have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in science, computer science, engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience.
    • Foundational knowledge of Cyber Security
  • Have working knowledge in one or more general purpose programming languages including but not limited to: Java, Python, JavaScript, etc.

Core Technical Skills:

  • Experience with object-oriented programming languages would be considered an asset.
  • Have an understanding of SSO Standards and authentication flows (SAML, OIDC, OAuth 2.0).
    • Familiarity with FIDO2 is considered an asset
    • Experience writing code for authentication is considered an asset
  • Have experience with API integration, authentication and security standards.
  • Have experience with Git or working knowledge of common software version control systems in collaborative development environments.

Interpersonal and Leadership Skills:

  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills: The ability to take ownership of complex technical challenges, independently troubleshoot issues, and propose effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills: The ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, and to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Quick learner with a security-first mindset: A candidate who can rapidly adapt to new technologies and processes while consistently prioritizing security in all aspects of their work.

Don’t meet all the requirements on the list?
A resume only goes so far in expressing who you are and the unique perspectives you bring. If you believe your skills and experience align with the role—but you might not check all the boxes—we want to hear from you. We encourage candidates from all work backgrounds, equity-seeking communities and experience levels to apply. If you’re seeking a career where your drive, perspective and growth are celebrated, we want to hear from you.
