About the role

The Opportunity

Reporting to the program Manager, the Resource Nurse is responsible and accountable for the application of current theory and research in the delivery of family-centred patient care consistent with the philosophy, objectives, vision and mission of IWK Health. The RN’s in the nursing resource pool will support four inpatient units: the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the Prenatal Special Care Unit (PSCU), the Family Newborn Care Unit (FNCU) and the Birth Unit.

The RN practices according to the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses, the Nova Scotia College of Nursing Standards of Nursing Practice, specialty standards as applicable and the policies and procedures of IWK Health.

Hours of Work

11.25 hours rotating shifts (0700-1900 and 1900-0700). Monday to Friday, weekends, days and nights.

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required (candidates with equivalent experience and education will be considered).
  • Licensed, or eligible for licensure, by the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) required.
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience (within the last five (5) years) in Maternal Newborn or Neonatal Nursing preferred.
  • Critical care nursing experience an asset.
  • Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate, required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with NRP and IBCLC Certification.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have Fetal Health Surveillance course.
  • Completion of Bereavement Course, or willingness to obtain, preferred.
  • Competency in other languages considered an asset.
