About the role
POSITION: Counsellor
ASSIGNMENT: Counselling - Elementary (K-7)
FTE: 1.0
LOCATION: District Administration Office
EFFECTIVE DATES: Commencing September 1, 2026 and continuing
Basic Qualifications: A successful candidate will hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate and be a member in good standing in the BC Ministry of Education, Teacher Regulation Branch AND possess one or more of the following:
Training Specialization: Secondary Education with a Master's Degree in Counselling
Related Teaching Experience: Recent successful experience as an Elementary School Counsellor
A Reasonable Expectation: based on a teacher's skills, abilities, professional development, and overall classroom teaching experience, that the teacher will be able to perform the duties in a successful manner in collaboration with other professional staff.
Additional Qualifications: Master's Degree in Counselling

Commitment to the School growth Plan. Ability to meet the counselling needs of students with a wide range of abilities. Commitment to the School Based Team. Willingness to provide support and develop programs in collaboration with the Youth Care Workers. Ability to advocate for student needs with community agencies.
The annual salary for the full-time Teacher ranges from $64,901 to $116,190 with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement. We also offer a competitive benefits package and pension.

Our school district serves approximately 2950 students with twelve elementary schools, a grade 8-9 junior school, a grade 10-12 secondary school, a secondary alternate school and a distance learning school. The District includes the communities of Quesnel, Nazko and Wells. Approximately one-third of the student population is of Indigenous ancestry. Indigenous students from the First Nations of Nazko, Lhtako,?Esdilagh, and Lhoosk’uz, as well as students who are Métis, and Inuit attend School District 28 schools.
