- Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, with a current requirement of twoin-office days per week, increasing to three days per week in September 2026 (subject to change).
- This position will be based at our representation office in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

Team Overview:
The Asia-Pacific Team –Southeast Asia region is looking for a highly motivated and experienced business development professional who will lead the team's business development efforts, representation and coverage in EDC’s – Ho Chi Minh office
The successful candidate will have significant international business and business development experience working in international markets, complemented by a sound knowledge of international policies as well as international banking, financing and insurance practices. The position requires an in-depth knowledge of international markets, business practices and culture. The successful candidate will be expected to relocate to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam (exact date to be determined) for an international assignment as a Chief Representative for a minimum of three years.
The successful candidate must demonstrate a passion for EDC's mandate, possesses strong relationship management, influencing and business development skills and will act as a trusted partner supporting Canadian companies in market and providing an important link with the Canadian governmental presence in Vietnam and other partners (Global Affairs Canada, Provinces, etc). The Chief Representative will fully understand the evolving business environment in Vietnam the Canadian government policies, and provide strategic advice and reporting to EDC, and build strategies to support Canadian exporters and investors in this market.
To be a successful Chief Representative for EDC one must:
- Have a passion for EDC's mandate and a sound judgement;
- Possess strong relationship building skills and the capability of connecting in the market and the ability to identify and develop reliable business partners;
- Be able to work independently and as a member of a broader virtual team;
- Have the capability of working a variety of hours due to networking events, social engagements, business meetings and varying time zones;
- Be able to generate business opportunities in line with EDC’s corporate strategy, including call planning, prospecting and selling to originate transaction opportunities;
- Have experience in structuring transactions, screen potential clients and facilitate transactions;
- Pro-actively manage accounts of key buyers, borrowers, exporters and market intermediaries, and contribute to the systematic management of EDC's Canadian accounts active or interested in the market;
- Lead the development and execution of an overall country strategy for Vietnam as well as client-specific account plans;
- Have the ability to understand evolving environments, impacts on business, and synthesize sound approaches in collaboration with business partners;
- Provide corporate representation at public events across the region as well as during outreach activities in Canada;
- Understand local business complexities and provide market intelligence;
- Possess strong leadership skills in order to lead, coach, motivate and mentor an experienced team of professionals.
Skills & Knowledge
- Solid knowledge of international capital markets, banking environment, global insurance environment and EDC products;
- A thorough understanding of financial requirements and risk mitigation throughout the life cycle of capital projects;
- Solid knowledge of the Canadian export and investment opportunities and challenges in Vietnam and the ASEAN region;
- A proven track record of developing and maintaining strategic relationships;
- Demonstrated ability to identify and deliver on new business opportunities;
- Solid influencing, negotiating, relationship management and highly effective communication and presentation skills;
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with relevant EDC virtual teams and exhibit appropriate leadership and teamwork skills;
- Ability to identify key objectives and develop and implement account strategies to meet objectives;
- Experience in understanding evolving business environments and policies and formulating sound strategies and judgement within complex situations;
- Ability to work autonomously with strong initiative;
- Must be result-oriented and proactive.
Screening Criteria
- University degree in business or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
- Minimum of 10 years of international business experience, including some relevant experience in a business development role;
- Experience in financial services industry, in selling and/or underwriting;
- Experience in working in evolving environments, and building strategic relationships;
- Knowledge of region; previous experience and or familiarity with Vietnam and/or the Asian market;
- Willingness to relocate for a foreign assignment;
- Bilingual (English and French)
Assets
- Experience with a broad range of EDC solutions and a solid understanding of EDC's mandate and business principles;
- Fluent in Vietnamese
Other Criteria
- Top Secret Security Clearance (all applicants must have Top Secret Clearance or be willing to commence the screening process)
- Canadian Citizenship is required

The Asia-Pacific Team –Southeast Asia region is looking for a highly motivated and experienced business development professional who will lead the team's business development efforts, representation and coverage in EDC’s – Ho Chi Minh office
