ABOUT THE TEAM
You will join a dynamic and student-focused team within Library and Academic Services, working across both the Notre Dame Campus (NDC) and Exchange District Campus (EDC) library spaces. The team includes two EAL Specialists, three Academic Support Specialists, and a roster of dedicated tutors who support a wide range of academic areas.
This is a high-performing, collaborative group known for being proactive, creative, and solutions-focused. Team members are deeply committed to student success and continuously look for ways to improve services, innovate programming, and respond to evolving student needs.
The Writing & Communication Centre Lead reports to the Manager, Student Academic Services and plays a key role in guiding daily operations, supporting staff, and shaping the future direction of writing, communication, and EAL supports across campuses.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As the Supervisor of the Writing and Communication Centre, you will work with a passionate group of full-time and part-time staff across our campuses. In this role, you'll supervise the Centre's daily operations, ensuring the success and growth of Communication, Writing, and EAL skills for all our students, including both domestic and international learners. Your expertise will contribute to the planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and administration of top-notch services. As a key player, you will build strong relationships and actively seek opportunities to collaborate across Student Services and Global Partnerships, RRC Polytech’s academic Schools, and other service areas across the College. Your efforts will enhance our academic and learning services, ensuring that we continue to meet the evolving needs of our diverse student community. WHAT YOU WILL BRING
A Bachelor of Education degree or a combination of equivalent education and experience in the field of education or a related subject may be considered Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (CTESL) and/or Communications diploma or equivalent education and experience in the domain of EAL or communication required 5+ years of progressive supervisory experience in leading and managing a writing and communication centre, tutoring service, or related function, including responsibility for daily operations and for the development, implementation, and evaluation of high-quality student supports for domestic and international learners 5+ years of demonstrated experience in the design, delivery, and execution of post-secondary communication skills, EAL, and remedial programming initiatives 5+ years of demonstrated experience tutoring and/or teaching communications, writing, and EAL strategies to diverse student populations 5+ years of progressive experience supporting employee performance and coaching and mentoring high-performing teams in fast-paced, evolving environments Demonstrated leadership experience coordinating cross-functional teams and initiatives, with clear examples of planning, organizing, and delivering projects, including timelines, outcomes, and measurable improvements Proven experience building and sustaining partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, student services, and external partners, along with strong written and verbal communication skills, evidenced by the development of initiatives, programs, communities of practice, reports, presentations, and other materials that support student success Experience managing complex or sensitive student or stakeholder concerns, demonstrating sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to resolve issues effectively Demonstrated ability to navigate challenging interpersonal situations, including conflict resolution, team dynamics, and stakeholder management, with examples of positive outcomes Organization and time management skills to respond effectively to multiple demands Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Teams) and ability to adapt to new technologies A high capacity for objectivity, fairness, impartiality, flexibility, without compromising standards and policies Well-developed research and analytical skills demonstrated by the ability to obtain, assess and evaluate data to support recommendations and decisions Experience using proactive, professional and effective communications strategies with students, instructors, and other stakeholders Comprehensive understanding of, and sensitivity to, diversity, inclusion and cultural issues, particularly in relationship to international and newcomer student success Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement

Master’s degree in Education or a related field is considered an asset Familiarity with AI tools and willingness to adopt new technologies

Salary Range for this position: $72,553 - $102,281 per annum
