The CNE, often affectionately referred to as The Ex, is Canada’s largest community event and one of the top ten agricultural fairs in North America, attracting approximately 1.6 million visitors annually over the course of its 18-day run. ABOUT THE ROLE
The Marketing Assistant will report to the Chief Marketing Officer and work alongside both the CNE Marketing and Communications Team & Media Relations PR Team.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate effective organization and communications skills. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team to assist in executing multiple Marketing & Communications campaigns simultaneously.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Maintenance of the website portfolio for the CNEA, including but not limited to:
o Managing and maintaining copy for all active websites (CNE Foundation, Withrow, theex.com, Shopify Merch Shop etc.)
o Liaison with Plank / other 3rd parties to ensure success of website (fixing bugs, backend mechanics, updates etc.)
o Ensuring 2026 website strategies, builds and projects are executed (Launching of 2026 tickets, online forms, Vendor Portal, Membership Portal, Withrow Common needs, etc.)
o Ensuring theex.com messaging is accurate, up to date with proper sponsor / media partner representation where applicable.
o Ensuring website is fully screenshotted during fair, and language is changed over post-fair
o Ensuring CTA banner is scheduled and tracked on an ongoing basis
o Maintaining the AI Chat Bot
- Act as Internal Brand liaison (logo use, uniform design, brand kits, promo items/inventory, signage, etc.) to ensure brand consistency is maintained
- Support any Promotional Media Partner initiatives and plans for the CNEA (may require on-site maintenance, helping facilitate contracted obligations)
- Support in event management for the CNE and additional CNEA events.
- Support in maintaining CNEA Promotional & CNEA Shop portfolios (inventory checks, deliveries, stock replenishing etc.)
- Supporting the on-site Digital Kiosk Portfolio (content generation & scheduling and coordinating with Sponsorship Team as needed)
- Support ongoing communications with the Guest Experience Team (ensuring they are updated with proper comms and assets as needed – with Chief Marketing Officer approval on information being disseminated
- Write and edit content/copy for a variety of CNEA related initiatives working closely with the Chief Marketing Officer
- Support the Chief Communications Officer in planning, development and implementation of all marketing materials across all channels as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Must be available to work flexible hours and rotating shifts (morning and late-night shifts) from August 21st to September 7th for the duration of the 18-day fair including evenings, weekends and Labour Day holiday
- Valid G2 or G driver's licence preferred
- Experience working in the field of marketing, communications, or journalism is considered an asset
- Experience managing and updating websites using CMS platforms (WordPress, Shopify, or similar)
- Strong understanding of digital marketing principles, including SEO best practices and web content strategy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail, grammar, and brand voice
- Experience with brand management and an understanding of visual identity standards
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal teams, media, vendors, and stakeholders
- Experience with design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is an asset
- Familiarity with digital scheduling, content management, and analytics tools is an asset
- Experience with or exposure to AI tools and chatbot platforms is an asset
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and problem solve in high-pressure situations
- Comfortable working in environments with bright lights, loud noises, and large crowds
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to engage in physical tasks, including safe lifting and moving of heavy items
