Salary Range:**** $63,347 to $116,190 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement)
Effective Date: September 1, 2026

**Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience: **

  • Extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment at the Secondary level
  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated application of, the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
  • ability and experience teaching in an alternate school setting
  • Experience with and ability to design curriculum and deliver innovative programming in an alternate setting
  • demonstrated sensitivity, awareness and understanding of adolescent development and enthusiasm for developing positive relationships to motivate young adults to achieve at a high level, and to inspire confidence and self-worth
  • ability to teach in combined grade classrooms where the teacher develops a mindset that sees all the students as a group of learners with a range of needs and interests
  • demonstrated commitment to case managing IEPs and working collaboratively with staff, parents, and students to ensure all members of the student IEP team are involved in building and monitoring the CBIEP
  • ability to understand and apply mathematical concepts, processes, and skills to solve problems and make decisions in a variety of situations, including real-life scenarios
  • ability to design lessons for a strong commitment to literacy development that promotes the ability to understand, critically analyze, and create a variety of forms of communication including oral, written, digital and multimedia
  • demonstrated commitment in preparing students to transition to post-secondary training and/or career opportunities
  • demonstrated ability to make meaningful student connections and support students with irregular attendance
  • knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures relevant to this assignment area
  • demonstrated commitment to place-based learning where community guests are invited to learning in our classrooms along with experiences where students are learning within our community
  • demonstrated skills supporting and mentoring students with project-based learning where students can work individually or collaboratively on an in-depth learning experience
