About the role

The Opportunity
As Managing Director, Talent CoE in Toronto, you will lead the creation of a centralized Talent Centre of Excellence within Portfolio Solutions, setting best-in-class standards for value creation and driving talent decisions across Portfolio Companies. You’ll collaborate with deal teams throughout the investment lifecycle—from diligence to exit—supporting Strategy and Value Creation Plans, accelerating value levers through special projects, and ensuring the right talent is in place.

Who you will work with
You will report to the Executive Managing Director of Portfolio Solutions and join a global team of ~40 professionals focused on value creation and data analytics. As Managing Director of the Talent CoE, you’ll work closely with asset management teams, value creation professionals, and portfolio company executives to execute talent-driven initiatives. You will also manage relationships with vendors, advisors, and partners to build an ecosystem that rapidly deploys solutions across the portfolio.

What you’ll do

  • Establish Talent CoE as the central hub for talent expertise, creating best-in-class standards, frameworks, and playbooks for management assessments pre- and post-deal.
  • Serve as strategic advisor to asset management teams, value creation teams, and portfolio companies on organizational effectiveness and talent execution.
  • Lead talent initiatives including assessment, performance management, succession planning, and executive development.
  • Drive executive talent search strategies and foster relationships to support recruitment needs.
  • Guide compensation and incentives, providing expertise in specialized areas often challenging in-house.
  • Manage board talent to enhance governance and business performance.
  • Ensure capacity to execute, aligning internal and external resources for portfolio companies.
  • Support due diligence by evaluating talent opportunities pre-investment and developing C-suite assessment best practices post-deal.
  • Develop expert resources for executive compensation, coaching, and board effectiveness.
  • Build data-driven frameworks, KPIs, and analytics to inform talent decisions.
  • Partner with Global Sector MDs to deliver talent-related initiatives across sectors and assist deal teams during diligence for new investments.

What you will need

  • 15+ years in senior talent leadership roles within private equity, operating environments, or consulting, with a proven track record of driving talent and organizational transformations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; MBA or graduate degree is an asset. Relevant certifications in talent assessment and organizational behavior.
  • Deep expertise in talent assessment, development, and succession planning for C-suite executives across multiple industries.
  • Strong understanding of portfolio company operations and HR in performance improvement contexts.
  • Knowledge of private equity value creation methodologies and operational improvement.
  • Experience working with C-suite executives and boards on talent, transformation, and organizational effectiveness initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale change and build best practices from the ground up with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities, work independently, and manage projects in a high-performance global team.
  • Confidence to lead and drive initiatives drawing on prior experience.
  • Strong team player who collaborates effectively with colleagues.
  • Skilled at building partnerships with senior stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management, ensuring alignment and engagement across transactions and initiatives.
