*The ideal candidate will be confident, professional,*optimistic, and energetic, must be customer service focused and be committed to our organization and values. The Custodial Repairperson must exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with CHC customers and represent CHC in a positive manner.

As a member of the district team and working under the supervision of the District Manager, the Custodial Repairperson will perform custodial and maintenance repair duties daily. The Custodial Repairperson must be a self-starter and will be required to work with a high degree of independence utilizing tact and good judgement in communication and processing of information.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Custodial duties:

  • Cleaning floors and/or carpets in common areas, stripping, sealing and waxing floors.
  • Cleaning stairwells, hallways, walls, and windows.
  • Showing apartments to prospective tenants.
  • Cleaning snow and ice from walkways and steps (sanding and salting in winter), general clean-ups in other seasons including litter pick up, maintaining lawn and garden areas.
  • Report resident/incident complaints and maintenance problems to District Manager.
  • Assist in security of the tenants and buildings and maintain general checks of fire logbook.
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time.

Maintenance duties:

  • Repairing doors, windows, and screens.
  • Removing and setting floor tiles, installing, and repairing floors.
  • Repairing kitchen cabinets and cupboards, removing, and replacing countertops and sinks.
  • Plumbing repairs to toilets, sinks, taps, etc.
  • Electrical repairs to switches, fixtures, outlets, etc.
  • Undertaking plaster, tile, and masonry repairs, repairing exterior porches and siding including eaves troughs and downspouts.
  • Maintaining a stock inventory and related records as required, informing Supervisor when materials are low.
  • Maintaining workshop, tools, and equipment in a safe manner, assisting in preparation of vacated units as required.
  • Completing and signing relevant sections of work orders and returning promptly.
  • Assisting the District Manager with inspections and quality control.
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • To be familiar with modern janitorial procedures, methods and equipment and have working knowledge and demonstrated ability to perform a broad range of maintenance repairs, as normally acquired through several years’ directly related work experience or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in the use of tools and equipment, safety procedures and supplies related to the performance of these duties is required.
  • Possess a proven ability to work well in a situation with minimum supervision, to prioritize tasks on an ongoing basis, and to communicate effectively, courteously, and tactfully with tenants, co-workers, and supervisors both verbally and in writing.
  • Possession of a valid Ontario Driver’s License class “G”, current valid insurance, and the use of a personal vehicle for work purposes may be required.
  • Certifications are required by the employer (ie. WHMIS; ESA; Fall Arrest, etc.), the employer will arrange required mandatory training.
  • The successful candidate will be required to have an acceptable Police Clearance and a Physical will be arranged and conducted by our Corporate Physician based on the Physical Demands Analysis of the position (if applicable for internal applicants).

This is a Bargaining Unit position; you will be required to work in a smoke-free environment.
