ROLE
The Senior Technologist, General X-ray is accountable for daily work flow/scheduling, quality assurance, staff training and education, equipment and supplies and liaising with patients, other staff and physicians regarding General X-ray. He/she will work together with the Senior Technologist, Interventional Radiology and Student Coordinator regarding the potential training of student technologists as required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)
- Graduate of an accredited Radiological Technology program
- Registered with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario
- Current CPR certification
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)
- Minimum 3 years progressive clinical experience in the area of General X-ray
- Quality Control processes for all equipment related to General X-ray
- Knowledge of all equipment and auxiliary products used in General X-ray
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills (i.e. awareness of departmental needs, respected by staff for clinical and non-clinical performance, initiative, coordination of activities and personnel, collaboration with other departments, sites and facilities).
- Demonstrated teaching skills
- Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution/problem solving
- Demonstrated skills in coordination of people and patient care activities
- Computer literacy with aptitude for augmenting current computer skills
- Demonstrated commitment to his/her ongoing professional development and continuing education (i.e. awareness of one’s own personal/professional education needs, and self-initiation of actions to meet those needs)
- Demonstrated ability to act quickly and effectively when dealing with emergencies with patients and staff
- Able to exercise courtesy and understanding in dealing with patients, medical personnel, visitors, other staff and members of other departments
- Able to recognize and react appropriately, both mentally and physically, to emergent/critical situations, incidents and adverse reactions. This would encompass following Hospital/Departmental policies & procedures, maintaining a calm and professional composure and assuming a leadership role when required to support staff
- Able to react to unpredictable situations with critically/acutely ill patients having physical limitations, to ensure patient safety
- Able to work all shifts, including standby, on a rotational basis
- Able to work additional shifts or overtime during short-staffing crisis’s and volume overload situations
DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION

Registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists or Ontario Association of Medical Radiation Sciences recommended

Prior leadership/management training preferred

Previous experience as Senior technologist preferred.
