About the role

POSITION OVERVIEW The Engineering Designer – Electrical is responsible for developing detailed electrical system designs, models, and construction documentation that support mission-critical facilities, including modular data centers and industrial installations. This role works closely with electrical engineers, architects, project managers, and cross-discipline design teams to ensure electrical systems are accurate, code-compliant, fully coordinated, and constructible.

The ideal candidate brings strong electrical design fundamentals, advanced 3D modeling and drafting capabilities, and a proactive approach to quality, coordination, and continuous improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES -Electrical Design & Modeling

  • Create, modify, and maintain detailed 3D electrical system models for lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, security, and low-voltage systems using Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar design platforms.
  • Produce accurate electrical drawings, layouts, schematics, and schedules that meet project requirements, codes, and industry standards.
  • Translate engineering concepts, redlines, sketches, and specifications into complete design deliverables.

Coordination & Integration

  • Collaborate with electrical engineers, architects, and other disciplines to ensure electrical systems are fully coordinated within the overall facility design.
  • Identify spatial conflicts between electrical systems and other building components and work with teams to resolve issues early.
  • Support coordination meetings and design reviews to ensure alignment and constructability.

Quality Control & Standards

  • Perform quality checks to ensure drawings and models are accurate, current, and aligned with company and project standards.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve electrical templates, standard details, part libraries, and design conventions.
  • Ensure design updates and revisions are incorporated correctly and communicated effectively.

Documentation & Submittals

  • Assist with preparation of design submittals, technical reports, and presentations for internal teams, clients, and contractors.
  • Provide technical clarification and documentation support to project managers and field teams.

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current on electrical design best practices, software capabilities, and code updates.
  • Recommend workflow and process improvements to enhance design efficiency and consistency.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of electrical design principles and building systems.
  • Proficiency with Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar electrical design software (required).
  • Knowledge of lighting systems, power distribution, fire alarm systems, and low-voltage systems.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, local AHJ requirements).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Work Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in electrical design or drafting (required).
  • Experience producing coordinated electrical drawings and system layouts.
  • Experience supporting industrial, commercial, or mission-critical facilities (preferred).
  • Experience working in a multi-discipline design environment (preferred).

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (preferred).
  • Technical diploma or equivalent hands-on electrical design experience will be considered.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Electrical or design software certifications (preferred).
  • LEED or sustainability-related certifications (plus).
  • OSHA or safety certifications (optional).
