Position Description
Reporting to the Vice President, Recruiting, Training & Talent, the Senior Manager, Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) is accountable for leading and implementing health, safety, and facilities initiatives across all Canadian operations. This includes corporate offices (Toronto Headquarters and Milwaukee Experience Centre, Factory Service Centres, and our soon to be state-of-the-art Hub. The role ensures compliance with applicable legislation and internal standards, drives continuous improvement in safety culture, and leads the development of a comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) for Canada, leveraging the management system designed and used in the U.S. Hub locations. Initially, this role will also support ensuring that the build of the new Hub is complaint with all required OHS legislation.

The Senior Manager is also accountable for leading the facilities operations team to ensure a safe working environment for all our employees. The facilities team is currently accountable for the Toronto Headquarters and the Milwaukee Experience Centre. The team includes a Facilities Manager, a Facilities Coordinator, and Receptionist.

What You Will Do

Program Leadership & Compliance

Develop, implement, and continuously improve the Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS) across diverse environments to align with federal and provincial regulations (e.g. OHSA, WSIB, TDG).

  • Ensure compliance with various provincial legislation related to OHS.
  • Lead internal audits, inspections, and risk assessments to proactively identify hazards and corrective actions.
  • Engage with regulatory bodies (MOL, WSIB, Public Health) as required, and support investigations, inspections, and reporting requirements.
  • Support organizational change with a safety lens.
  • Develop appropriate guidelines and support for the shipping of dangerous goods.

Training & Culture Development

  • Identify training needs and collaborate with the Learning & Development team to ensure appropriate training is in place for all employees and Health & Safety committee members.
  • Foster a proactive safety culture through coaching, strategic clarity, and team development.
  • Support and advise Joint Health & Safety Committees (JHSC) and lead safety steering meetings across corporate and operational sites.

Incident Management & Analytics

  • Lead investigations of incidents and work refusals, ensuring thorough documentation, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Oversee WSIB claims management and liaise with third-party representatives.
  • Analyze safety data, trends, and KPIs to inform decision-making and reduce risk across all business units.

Emergency Preparedness & Environmental Support

  • Maintain and test emergency response plans, including evacuation drills, first aid readiness, and business continuity planning.
  • Support environmental initiatives related to waste reduction, hazardous materials handling, and safe disposal practices.

Facilities Management

  • Oversee facilities operations for corporate locations, ensuring safety, functionality, and compliance with building codes and standards.
  • Lead and develop a facilities team consisting of a Facilities Manager, Facilities Coordinator, and Receptionist.
  • Oversee: Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to manage facility maintenance, upgrades, and space planning (this is role of Facilities Manager).
  • Provide safety and operational support for new facility builds and renovations, ensuring alignment with organizational and regulatory requirements.

Ergonomics Program Management

  • Design and lead a comprehensive ergonomics strategy across office, industrial, and remote work environments.
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments and recommend interventions to reduce musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).
  • Ensure ergonomic standards in furniture, equipment, and workstations.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Manage facilities team and provide mentorship and professional development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety and facilities considerations into daily operations and strategic projects.
  • Collaborate with U.S. Environmental, Health & Safety team on safety requirements related to the Hub.
  • Present safety and facilities performance metrics, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership.

What You Will Bring

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • CRSP designation or working toward certification.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred but not required.

Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of progressive Occupational Health & Safety experience, including 3–4 years in a leadership role
  • Experience supporting manufacturing environments, corporate facilities, and remote workforces
  • Proven experience developing and implementing a Health and Safety Management System
  • Experience dealing with the Transportation of Dangerous goods, specially lithium batteries
  • Demonstrated expertise in ergonomics, including assessment tools and intervention strategies.
  • Experience supporting or leading OHS across multiple provinces in Canada
  • Experience collaborating or leading a facilities operations team and leading cross-functional teams
  • Experience supporting new facility builds and renovations is strongly preferred

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of various provincial OHS regulations, including ESA knowledge related to Harassment and Violence in the Workplace.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and safety data systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and influence safety culture across all levels.
