Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Must be able to travel throughout the province by ground, air, or by boat and stay overnight as required.

  • Must be able to work alone, work extended hours when required, including some weekends.

  • Must be able to work in a variety of outdoor rough terrain environment, and can be exposed to the following workplace hazards such as road construction equipment, roadway traffic, asphalt plant area, noise, dust, hand/power tools, moving equipment, slip-trip-fall, bending/lifting, carrying/twisting, insects, vegetation & sharp objects etc.

  • Must be able to stand, walk and sit for extended period of time and lift and carry 0-25kg.

  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Completion of a Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or Civil Technician Certificate or Electronics Engineering Technology Diploma or completion of Department Level 1 training courses (or working towards) or an approved combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of the equipment and methodologies used in the collection of traffic data
  • Knowledge of Occupational, Safety, Health & Risk Management policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and courteously with internal contacts.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software package (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Effective written communication skills.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using hand and power tools.

Desired:

  • Experience conducting traffic monitoring counts and installing traffic monitoring equipment would be an asset.

Duties:

The Traffic Monitoring Technician reports to the Senior Monitoring Technician and receives direction from the Lead Traffic Monitoring Technician.

The Traffic Monitoring Technician performs routine technical work in collecting traffic data for highway planning and in the installation of complex electronic data collection sites. The Traffic Monitoring Technician adheres to department standards, specifications, policies, and procedures.
