Job Description Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Commercial Management team within CPG Rapid Transit division is seeking an experienced Senior Advisor who will deliver commercial excellence across major infrastructure initiatives. This influential role will provide expert guidance on claims, variations and dispute resolution, while ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and industry best practices.

What will I be doing?

  • Advise on contract negotiation strategies, ensuring compliance with organizational and Project Agreement standard.
  • Provide expert oversight on commercial aspects of subway projects, including claims, variations and disputes, in collaboration with project teams.
  • Identify and assess contractual risks, offering strategic recommendations to the Director for effective mitigation.
  • Support and guide claims resolution, variation evaluation and dispute resolution processes, promoting fair outcomes and strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of commercial management systems, procedures, and standards.
  • Analyze contract performance and commercial outcomes, delivering actionable insights through detailed reporting.
  • Prepare high-level reports and presentations for senior leadership, highlighting key commercial developments.
  • Review and advise on commercial documentation to ensure alignment with industry best practices and organizational goals.
  • Provide strategic commercial advice throughout all phases of project delivery.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Completion of a degree in Business, Law, Applied Science, Engineering, or a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in commercial advisory roles within large infrastructure or transportation projects.
  • Deep understanding of Project Agreement frameworks, contract law, claims management, and dispute resolution.
  • Good analytical and communication skills, with the ability to distill complex issues into clear guidance.
  • Strategic mindset with a proactive approach to identifying and solving commercial challenges.
  • Project management to plan, organize, and coordinate internal and external resources engaged in project activities to meet timelines, budget limitations, and adhere to quality control standards and best practices.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Contract Management Software (Unifier) and Visio
  • Strong influencing/negotiating as well as political acumen capabilities to deal with a variety of stakeholders, agencies, and staff to ensure successful outcomes and achieve goals.
  • Analytical skills to analyze business needs and identify and assess project risks and impacts on company reputation and develop recommendations for corrective action.
  • Interpersonal and strong oral/written/presentation communication skills to develop reports and presentations based on analytical findings.
