Director, Labour Relations (Academic)

About the role

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for overseeing day-to-day delivery of academic labour relations operations, administer academic labour relations services, and ensure the adoption of best practices and strategies for collective bargaining and administration of academic labour relations collective agreements.

Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Knowledge of operational management and leadership concepts practices including program/service delivery models, policy development, planning, budgeting, performance measurement management, and human resources
  • Knowledge of labour relations and human resources program design, delivery, assessment, and evaluation methodologies, processes, and practices
  • Knowledge of relevant governing legislation, collective agreements, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of office as well as the broader university academic units, departments, and divisions and academic principles and practices as they relate to employment
  • Knowledge of office productivity software and databases, internet browsers and search engines, discipline-specific software, enterprise software, and technology devices
  • Knowledge of cultural competency and diversity
  • Knowledge is used to lead labour relations academic unit

Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • Master's degree in industrial relations, public administration or law degree (JD/LLB)
  • Minimum of ten years of previous labour relations experience including five years of management and leadership experience
  • Professional experience in an academic environment
