The Role:

Reporting to the Controller, this position plays a key role in the Accounting team. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in the hospitality industry, be highly analytical and organized and work well in a fast-paced environment. They will also possess strong leadership skills with the ability to foster great working relationships with the hotel team.

Job Duties:

  • Assist with month-end journal entries and inventory control audits
  • Responsible for sharing duty of Account Reconciliation with Controller.
  • Participation in vacation coverage for departmental roles.
  • Key communicator between the accounting department and other departments
  • Assist with the training and development of accounting staff.
  • Knowledge with Hotel operating systems and software including Financials System (AccPac), PMS (Opera), POS (Maitre’d), Excel.
  • Assist with the administration of gratuities when required.
  • Compile month-end statistical information for financial statements.
  • Prepare month-end journal entries, according to the policy and using standard templates.
  • Assist with conducting and completing all standard reconciliation templates according to company policy.
  • Conduct employee performance interviews.
  • Assist with the monthly forecast preparation.
  • Reconcile and monitor all balance sheet accounts according to the policy.
  • Responsible for the monthly Journal and Closing entries posting and reconciliation.
  • Assist with the preparation of the hotel’s Budget.
  • Responsible for month-end deadlines and schedules.

Employment Experience and Educational Requirements:

  • Accounting designation or enrollment in a recognized Accounting Program.
  • Previous hotel accounting experience at a supervisory/managerial level (Minimum 3 years preferred).
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to motivate employees.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with Financial Systems (AccPac), Opera, POS (Maitre’d), and Excel.
  • Hospitality industry experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and build professional relationships.
  • Able to work effectively within designated timelines.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.

Physical Demands:

  • Primarily sedentary type work with the ability to remain seated for extended periods.
  • Frequent use of computer, keyboard, mouse and other office equipment requiring hand and finger dexterity to complete tasks.
  • Ability to view a computer screen for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. when completing inventory count.
