Position Description:
The Materials and Processes Engineer is responsible for the review and approval of aircraft and process modifications, as well as approval of De Havilland suppliers for special processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate new materials for Aerospace applications. Work closely with Material suppliers, vendors, Laboratories in evaluating materials and processes.
  • Develop Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspection procedures for various aircraft
  • Participate to the development of technical documents related to NDT processes
  • Perform technical reviews of NDT procedures and technique sheets of manufacturing NDT processes requiring approval
  • Participate in research and development projects involving new materials and advanced NDT technologies
  • Maintain and update materials specifications and processes related documents
  • Evaluate materials and processes to ensure compliance with environmental requirements (REACH, EPA,CEPA…).
  • Evaluate aircraft modifications to ensure compliance to approved processes and regulatory requirements
  • Review and implementation of current and new De Havilland processes to maintain industry leadership
  • Provide primary technical expertise and leadership in resolving manufacturing issues in the Operations, Quality, Customer Support and Supply Chain departments
  • Travel regularly to perform audits of special processes at suppliers
  • Evaluate suppliers’ conformity to manufacturing processes requirements
  • Additional Functions:
  • Actively works to improve daily processes and ensures all work meets customer requirements
  • Maintains a current knowledge of developments in the field of specialty and/or other related aircraft fields to recommend innovations to improve quality and effectiveness of company product
  • Performs other duties such as Internal Audit Support, Airworthiness containment activities and corrective action implementation

Skills and Requirements:

  • You hold an engineering degree or equivalent in Materials , Metallurgy.
  • You have experience related to the special processes for the manufacturing of aerospace metallic parts and corrosion protection, e.g. heat treatment, chemical processing, welding, shot peening, etc.
  • You have strong leadership, problem solving, flexibility and project management skills
  • You have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in aerospace industries in metallurgy fields
  • You are familiar with the NDT inspection methodologies of assemblies, aircraft structures, aerospace terminology and technical drawings
  • You have a minimum of five years of experience in NDT in the aerospace industry
  • You are knowledgeable about typical NDT aerospace codes, standard and with the development of non-destructive inspection procedures
  • You know how to conduct NDT technical audits in-line with your field of expertise
  • You have shown strong leadership, problem solving, project and time/priority management skills in your past assignments and require minimum supervision
  • You accept to travel occasionally
  • You have a good working knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Office
  • You have excellent communication skills (written and spoken) in English
  • You have a good understanding of Nadcap, AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality standards
  • Licensed or eligible for licensing as a Professional Engineer in Ontario
