About the role

CGI is seeking a Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer Specialist to support enterprise data modernization initiatives across public sector and commercial clients.

In this role, you will design and implement modern data engineering platforms using Microsoft Fabric, supporting organizations transitioning from traditional Microsoft data platforms to scalable cloud-based analytics architectures.

The successful candidate will have strong hands-on data engineering experience, consulting delivery experience, and the ability to work directly with client stakeholders to deliver production-grade data platforms.

This role is ideal for a senior data engineer with experience modernizing legacy Microsoft data environments such as SQL Server and SSIS into modern Lakehouse architectures.

Your future duties and responsibilities

Data Engineering & Platform Development

  • Design and implement enterprise data platforms using Microsoft Fabric

  • Develop Lakehouse architectures using One Lake, Delta tables, and Spark

  • Build scalable data ingestion and transformation pipelines using Fabric Data Factory

  • Implement data transformations using PySpark and SQL

  • Design medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) for enterprise analytics environments

  • Optimize pipelines for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency

Data Platform Modernization

  • Support migration of legacy data environments to Microsoft Fabric

  • Modernize ETL pipelines currently built on SQL Server and SSIS

  • Integrate data from enterprise systems, APIs, and relational databases

  • Support hybrid architecture integrating on-premise and cloud data environments.

Client Engagement & Delivery

  • Work directly with client stakeholders, architects, and project teams

  • Translate business and technical requirements into scalable data solutions

  • Participate in architecture discussions and design workshops

  • Contribute to technical documentation and implementation planning

Delivery & SDLC

Participate in full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) including:

  • Requirements
  • Architecture and design
  • Development
  • Testing
  • Deployment
  • Production support
  • Support CI/CD practices and deployment pipelines
  • Follow data engineering and data governance best practices

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in data engineering or enterprise data platform development

  • Experience delivering at least 3 full end-to-end SDLC implementations

  • Proven experience working on client-facing consulting or delivery engagements

  • Hands-on experience implementing modern cloud data platforms

  • Experience maintaining or modernizing traditional ETL pipelines

  • Experience migrating SQL Server workloads to modern cloud architectures

Highly Desired Qualifications (anyone)

  • Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer (DP-600)

  • Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer (DP-700)

Preferred Experience

  • Experience supporting Atlantic Canadian clients

  • Experience working with Canadian federal or provincial government organizations

  • Experience in data platform modernization initiatives

  • Exposure to data science workflows, including exploration analysis and feature engineering

CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $65,000.00–$125,000.00 This role is a future opportunity.
