Overview
This position offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with Dr. Aislin Mushquash at Lakehead University. The successful candidate will provide research and administrative support to Dr. Mushquash, playing a pivotal role in coordinating an innovative and impactful research portfolio. The responsibilities of the position will include overseeing the day-to-day operations of projects focused on digital mental health and youth mental health. As part of the research team, the successful candidate will assist with project management and research coordination,
ensuring the smooth progression of research from funding applications to final reporting.
This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a significant, long-term research program that aims to make a tangible impact on mental health through the use of technology. Please note that this is an in-person-only position located at Lakehead University's Thunder Bay campus.
The position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and conducting research activities across multiple projects within the research program. Working within the general direction provided by the Principal Investigator, the role applies established and emerging scientific methods to support study design, ethics submissions, data collection, analysis, and dissemination.
The incumbent acts in a consultative and specialist capacity, exercising judgment and discretion in implementing research protocols, advising on methodological approaches, and supporting research quality and rigor. The role also contributes to research program coordination, mentorship of staff and trainees, and knowledge translation activities, requiring comprehensive knowledge of relevant research theory, principles, and best practices.
Responsibilities
Research program leadership, implementation, and evaluation:
- Coordinate tasks within the research program, ensuring flexibility to meet evolving priorities and demands.
- Support the PI in delivering research projects, ensuring timely updates on priorities, resources, and progress.
- Assist with the preparation of research ethics applications and the development of study tools, including consent forms, interview guides,
- and survey questionnaires.
- Conduct systematic literature reviews and environmental scans to inform research decisions.
- Develop data collection instruments and manage their implementation for multiple research projects.
- Stay current on relevant research trends and literature, ensuring alignment with best practices.
Research Analysis, Reporting, and Dissemination:
- Facilitate data collection, analysis, and interpretation on methods and data quality.
- Implements protocols for qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods data collection, ensuring alignment with research objectives.
- Provide assistance with qualitative data analysis using NVivo software and quantitative analysis using tools such as R or SPSS.
- Oversee and assist with the preparation of data summaries, including tables, charts, and infographics, to present research findings.
- Collaborate with investigators and partners to create dissemination materials such as reports, presentations, and visual summaries.
- Assist in the preparation of manuscripts, offering editing and guidance to ensure publication quality.
- Support the organization of knowledge translation events, including public meetings, webinars, and media outreach.
- Research Staff, Student, and Trainee Management:
- Provide orientation and ongoing mentorship to new staff and trainees.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective students, staff, and trainees.
General:
- Designs, implements, and refines research protocols using advanced qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods approaches, exercising independent judgment within general guidance from the Principal Investigator.
- Applies specialized scientific knowledge to determine appropriate research methodologies, tools, and data standards, ensuring rigor, data quality, and alignment with project objectives.
- Acts as a methodological and technical resource to the research team, providing consultation on study design, data collection strategies, and analytical approaches.
- Interprets and synthesizes research findings to support high-quality scientific reporting, publications, and knowledge dissemination activities.
Qualifications
Master's degree in a relevant discipline, with some related research experience
