Intermediate Reactor Design Engineer

We are currently seeking Mechanical Design Engineers, to support our ongoing and upcoming CANDU6 Retube projects. This position requires an individual who is self-motivated and capable of working independently or under the instruction from a senior technical engineer and develop his/her career and experience in the nuclear field. The candidate shall be able to follow the instructions from a lead professional engineer to complete the assigned mechanical related scopes or tasks and develop necessary engineering design documentation as required.
This role will be based in 1340 Pickering Parkway, ON.
Your role within the team:
- Design and development of nuclear reactor components and systems such as calandria, calandria tubes, coolant channels, feeders, headers, reactivity mechanisms, end shields, etc.
- Preparation of design specifications in accordance with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Section III code requirements.
- Preparation of conceptual and detail design packages, including optioneering, design development, and concept evaluation.
- Production of manufacturing packages, coordination with manufacturer/contractor, review of vendor drawings/documents.
- Production of deliverables such as design definition and substantiation documents, detailed equipment specifications, component/material specifications, tool performance test specifications.
- Development of project technical proposals, scopes, schedules and budget estimates for mechanical discipline work.
- Walk-downs to assess system configuration, evaluation of system/component degradation and material condition.
- Witness the pre-commissioning/commissioning activities by the contractor/vendor and produce/review relevant documentation.
- Review of 2D and 3D CAD drawings/models and bill of materials.
- Plant refurbishment, operational improvement and life extension studies.

The ideal candidate:
- A Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from a university of recognized standing.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario is preferred.
- Qualified or eligible to be qualified as ASME Appendix XXIII is an asset.
- Minimum 5-8 Years of related work experience in mechanical engineering within a heavily regulated industrial environment such as: nuclear, mining, oil & gas, power, etc.
- Experience in production of drawings for equipment layout, fixtures, mechanical handling tools, and equipment drawings.
- Experience in design of nuclear reactor components such as calandria, end shield, coolant channels, control rod drive mechanisms, etc.
- Site experience in construction, or commissioning of plant mechanical systems for nuclear or other heavily regulated industries would be an asset.
- Working knowledge of CSA N285.0, N289, B51 and ASME Section III codes and any other applicable standards or regulatory guides related to permanent plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and/or reactor systems is preferred.
- Must be able to apply technical principles in a logical and practical manner to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.
- Must be willing to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW), although this will not be a regular requirement as part of the job.
- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Must have excellent communication and technical writing skills.
