Expansion within the Human Rights & Investigations Department has created new career opportunities! The Human Rights & Investigations Department is seeking 2 Investigator & Advisors to join their team!

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Human Rights Office (HRO) Manager, as an Investigator & Advisor you will review, assess, investigate and resolve complex complaints from employees and customers regarding alleged contraventions of TTC policies and procedures, including but not limited, to the Respect and Dignity Policy, Workplace Violence Policy, and Accommodation in the Workplace Policy. To this end, you will conduct interviews, gather evidence, research, make findings of fact, and draft reports. You will also ensure that investigations are completed in a fair, thorough and timely manner. Where appropriate, you will conduct mediations and facilitate other methods of conflict resolution.

You will provide guidance and assistance to all levels of TTC management, staff, and employees on a wide variety of human rights, accommodation, accessibility, and workplace violence related issues. As Investigator & Advisor, you will also develop, review and deliver education on human rights policies and legislative requirements. You will be required to participate in the TTC’s Customer Service Ambassador Program.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Your application will demonstrate thorough knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and other relevant legislation combined with a strong knowledge of equity principles and jurisprudence related to human rights, diversity and inclusion issues.
  • Your application will also demonstrate interviewing, investigative, research, analytical and report writing skills, as well as thorough knowledge of, and experience in, alternative dispute resolution (conciliation/mediation/negotiation) techniques.
  • Your educational background in human rights or a related field (e.g. Law, Labour Relations, Human Resources, Public Policy and Administration) is integral and will contribute to the success in this role.
  • Your knowledge, involvement and familiarity with the history of and barriers faced by racialized, Indigenous and Black communities due to racism and anti-Black racism, issues of equity, and systemic change is required.
  • Excellent active listening, communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate in a variety of mediums
  • Ability to gather information, conduct research with superior analytical and writing skills
  • Manage conflict and ability to problem-solve
    Effective organizational and case management skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and confidentiality
