Founding Board Director (Volunteer)
About the role
Haven for All is a Housing First initiative to build a 100-home permanent supportive housing campus in the CBRM — real homes, real supports, for people experiencing chronic homelessness. Not a shelter. Not temporary. A place to actually land. The campus is guided by Housing First, Trauma-Informed Care, and Harm Reduction principles, and designed as a permanent, dignified neighbourhood. We are in pre-development right now. To incorporate as a non-profit and begin the formal process, we need a minimum of 5 founding board directors. That milestone unlocks everything else.
Priority search: Board Chair
The role we need most urgently is a Board Chair — someone comfortable speaking publicly on behalf of this initiative, leading board meetings, and representing Haven for All with funders and at community events.
Ideal candidates bring backgrounds in one or more of these areas

Commitment: Approximately 5 to 10 hours per month during pre-development, increasing through the launch phase. Remote-friendly.
Qualifications
Experience in non-profit or community-based governance, including board leadership, policy development, and oversight of strategic planning Background in housing, social services, community development, or related fields, with familiarity or interest in Housing First, Trauma-Informed Care, and Harm Reduction approaches Skills in stakeholder engagement and partnership building, including the ability to collaborate with community organizations, funders, and government representatives Financial literacy and organizational management skills, such as understanding budgets, fundraising, risk management, and compliance in a non-profit context Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work respectfully across diverse cultures, identities, and lived experiences Commitment to creating dignified, permanent housing and support for people experiencing homelessness Prior experience with start-up or early-stage initiatives or social enterprises is an asset
