Position Overview

The Infrastructure, Transportation & Parks Department requires a regular full-time Supervisor 1 – Sewer.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Section Manager of Utilities, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Supervisor 2 in the planning and assigning of work of a small group of subordinates engaged in Sewer construction and maintenance tasks such as maintenance and repair of Wastewater/Storm systems and facilities, coordinating and directing the work of truck drivers and equipment operators, and external contractors. A thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, procedures and materials, tools and equipment used in municipal Sewer – Storm/utilities operations, maintenance and construction operations is required while ensuring performance standards, specifications and safety procedures are met. Your time will be spent actively in the field as well as at the Operations Centre.

Requirements

You will have completed Grade 12, supplemented by courses leading to certification in Wastewater collection within the Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP) with completion of Wastewater collection 1 as a minimum. You will have considerable knowledge of and direct related experience in municipal Sewer utilities construction and maintenance operations. You will be proficient with Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft and Hansen, or similar Financial and Asset Management systems. You also have the ability to supervise and assist in the work of a small group of employees, read construction drawings and prepare work records and have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License. You must be able to deal effectively with the public and embrace values such as teamwork, respect, a positive attitude, professionalism and integrity. You should also have demonstrated ability to direct the work of others. Experience with solid waste management is an asset.

Compensation

$41.87

(January 2024 rates)

Hours of Work

7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
