About the role

Job Description

The Environmental Scientist assists the project managers in the oversight of asbestos abatement projects for the Industrial Hygiene Department to ensure regulatory compliance and public safety. This role includes overseeing field personnel, conducting third-party air monitoring, and maintaining quality assurance across all project phases. This position involves writing detailed reports, compiling logs and data summaries, and supervising field personnel to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Success in this role requires adaptability, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as experience grows and organizational needs evolve.

Duties and responsibilities

Assist in conducting thorough asbestos inspections, asbestos surveys, preparation of asbestos abatement design and specifications to identify the presence and condition of asbestos-containing materials, including third-party air monitoring Assisting in report writing, including preparation of detailed logs and data summary tables Oversee field personnel to ensure that work is performed in accordance and in compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws QA/QC of work performed in field and approve time and expense sheets and log books submitted by field personnel Must be flexible in handling multiple work assignments, changing priorities and be able to meet deadlines Perform other related duties as assigned, including additional responsibilities that may emerge with increased experience and evolving organizational needs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, or a related field

Proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint; strong working knowledge of Excel is required.

Strong ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with diverse group

Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation Willingness to travel frequently throughout New York City

Preferred Qualifications

1 – 3 years of relevant experience preferred NYSDOL Asbestos Inspector a plus. OSHA 40-Hour a plus.

NYSDOL Project Monitor License a plus
