Job Description:
This post-doctoral fellowship (PDF) is funded through a series of international research grants with Drs Malcolm Doupe (University of Manitoba; https://umanitoba.ca/medicine/faculty-staff/malcolm-doupe) and Frode Fadnes Jacobsen (Western Norway University of Applied Sciences; https://www.hvl.no/en/employee/?user=Frode.Fadnes.Jacobsen) as principal applicants. These grants collectively assess older adult healthcare transitions (e.g., Nursing Home, Emergency Departments); applicants must demonstrate (1) extensive knowledge of this research area, (2) expert methodology using administrative healthcare use records (i.e., registry data), and (3) excellent peer-reviewed writing skills. While the University Manitoba (Manitoba Centre for Health Policy, MCHP) is the host institution for this PDF, all activities should be conducted with the goal of continuing to establish and expand a formal working partnership between the University of Manitoba and the Western University of Applied Health Sciences. Activities will be conducted under the joint supervision of Drs Doupe and Jacobsen.
This two-year position will commence fall 2022 or January 2023 at the latest. Applicants are expected to relocate to Winnipeg Manitoba and must be able to travel internationally on a semi-regular basis (about three times during the position, ranging from two weeks to three months on each occasion).
Funding
Annual Salary is $70,000 plus benefits.
Funding to support research activities, international travel (approximately four months in total), and peer-reviewed publications is provided.

Major research activities of the Fellow include:
- Take a lead role in developing/enacting research related to registry data systems internationally. This includes

Develop a strategy to adjudicate registry data according to key/agreed upon criteria (e.g., timeliness and consistency of data reporting across providers, time, settings).

Apply this rubric to select data systems internationally in part to guide subsequent international comparative research.

Lead the development and implementation of a publication plan (1-2 manuscripts) from this work.
- Take a lead role in developing/enacting select registry data analysis stemming from both local (Manitoba) and international team discussions. Working with a supervisory team and other international researchers, this includes developing and implementing an analysis plan that compares Nursing Home ? Emergency Departments transitions internationally, and additional older adult transition pathways (e.g., hospital-to-home pathways for community dwelling people, community to nursing home care transitions, end of life care). Responsibilities include:

Develop a plan to create 4-5 manuscripts minimally; create a data analysis plan pertinent to each paper in ways that ensure international comparability. Actively participate in, and lead where appropriate, additional research activities designed to guide prioritized healthcare reform initiatives.

Lead, with authorship, all aspects (analyses, writing) of the preparation, submission, and manuscript revision process.

Play a lead role in helping to plan for and implement various knowledge translation events at all stages of research productivity (e.g., consensus building discussions to shape research questions, interpret study results, and discuss research finding implications).

Play a key role in strategizing and developing short- and long-term related national and international grand funded initiatives (international student training and mobility programs, oongoing large scale international research programs).

Participate in graduate student training activities (e.g., current international exchange programs) as time permits.
Qualifications:
