HWN Energy, Ltd. is currently seeking to fill the following position:

Job Title: Director of Finance Location: Calgary Reports to: President & Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer Reporting jointly to the President & CEO and CFO, this role is responsible for the Company’s financial modeling, financial planning and analysis, and contributing to the strategic direction of the business, and serves as a key contributor to HWN’s acquisition and divestiture (A&D) activity and strategic transaction support. The successful candidate will bring 5+ years of energy sector investment banking experience, along with the financial modeling rigor, presentation building, deal evaluation and execution, and exceptional Excel skills needed to evaluate and present commercial opportunities to internal and external stakeholders. This role is an opportunity to work directly with the executive team and the Company’s financial sponsor on highly visible strategic and capital markets initiatives.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain and continuously enhance HWN’s corporate financial model; lead the cross-functional quarterly model update process and monitor and report on variances against plan.
  • Lead the financial modeling function for the Company’s various business opportunities, both upstream and midstream, to support the assessment, valuation and financing of acquisitions, divestitures, and various other commercial and strategic initiatives.
  • Lead preparation of monthly Board of Directors reporting package
  • Support full-cycle A&D transaction processes by partnering with the A&D team to screen opportunities and consolidate and validate materials.
  • Support the preparation of financial and strategic presentation materials for the Board of Director, financial stakeholders, and other potential and current external counterparties.
  • Assist the CFO in managing the Company’s credit facility, covenant compliance, and ongoing banking relationships.
  • Manage the Company’s commodity hedge/derivative program and liaise with hedge advisors and counterparties.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (operations, engineering, accounting, land, and executive leadership) to ensure accurate and complete financial information in the corporate model and deal evaluations.
  • Support the CEO and CFO in liaising with external advisors engaged on transaction work, including investment banks, legal counsel, Board of Directors and financial sponsors, prospective financing partners, and other external counterparties.
  • Coordinate and manage transaction data rooms, tracking buyer and seller diligence requests across technical, land, environmental, and legal workstreams.
  • Build and maintain relationships with investment banks, private equity sponsors, and industry counterparties to source and advance acquisition and divestiture opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or CFA designation an asset.
  • 5+ years of investment banking/private equity/corporate finance experience required; energy / oil & gas M&A or A&D transaction experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and present complex financial models (NAV, DCF, accretion/dilution) in Excel.
  • Strong understanding of oil & gas valuation metrics, terminology, and methodologies.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, with experience preparing materials for boards, lenders, and financial sponsors.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint); exposure to Claude or similar AI tools is an asset.
  • A self-starter capable of managing multiple live transactions and competing deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • High degree of integrity, discretion, and ability to handle confidential, market-sensitive information.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the organization and with external partners, advisors, and industry contacts.
