POSITION BACKGROUND:

The Yard Hand is trained and certified in the operation of vehicles and other mobile equipment/machinery. The Equipment Operator works alongside other operators and Ketek personnel to ensure the safe movement and transportation of other equipment and materials within Ketek’s yard.

CORE DUTIES:

Daily Operations

• Safely transport equipment and materials

• Load, unload and stage equipment and materials

• Receive and inspect materials according to packing slips and requisition sheets.

• Communicate and cooperate with Purchasers and Shippers/Receivers

• Correctly operate all equipment including but not limited to forklift

• Perform regular inspections, safety, maintenance, and servicing checks to ensure proper functioning of equipment

• Assist with Shop operations including cutting and prepping materials for fabrication

• Maintain equipment so it is presentable and works properly

• Pick orders for yard shipments as per Project Manager’s direction

• Complete all required paperwork on a daily basis, including equipment inspection checklists, THA and Daily Job Control Sheets

• Perform routine maintenance duties in the yard and shop as required

• Cooperate with the Training Department for scheduling of new/recertification training

• Ensure all Ketek policies and Occupational Health and Safety regulations are followed

• Participate in daily Tool Box talks

Other Duties

• Represent Ketek in a light that is commensurate with the values of Management and the Corporate Vision and Mission Statements

• Observe all safety procedures and use proper Personal Protective Equipment

• Be considerate of the needs of our community and the environment

• Perform other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Required

• Fluent in the English language (reading, written, spoken)

• Ability to deal with the public in a positive, courteous, and respectful manner

• Devoted to following code of ethics and safety rules

• Ability to work independently or as part of a team

Preferred

• Experience with pick tickets, material transfers and rental tickets

• Fire Extinguisher knowledge

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand/sit, talk/hear, stoop, climb, lift, balance, kneel and use of hands/fingers to operate tools, machinery and materials

• Moderate to heavy lifting (up to 50lbs) may be required

• Use of mechanical aids: overhead crane, forklift, pallet jack, and dolly may be required

• Regular exposure to loud noises. Hearing protection is provided when needed

• Potential exposure to acetylene gas, fumes, oil, and paint residue

Work Environment

• Yard environment (50%), Shop environment (50%)

• May be required to work weekends and outside of regular office hours

• Will be required to work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and heat
