About the role

Interior Health is seeking a self-directed and autonomous Primary Care Registered Nurse to join our team at the Elkford Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC). This is a permanent part-time position offering a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact in patient care.

Working a rotating 4-on/4-off schedule, weekday shifts run from 08:30 to 18:30, while weekends and statutory holidays are 08:30 to 16:30.

In this role, you will receive comprehensive training and work closely with physicians and an interdisciplinary team to support both urgent care and longitudinal care. We are looking for someone who is collaborative, adaptable, and thrives in a team-based environment, while also being comfortable working independently when needed.

How will you make an impact?
As a Primary Care Registered Nurse, you will work within an interprofessional, collaborative team-based environment alongside physicians, nurse practitioners, allied health professionals, and community partners. Together, you will provide comprehensive and coordinated nursing care across a variety of settings, including Interior Health and non-IH primary care clinics, virtual care, community outreach, and client homes. This role is integral to supporting patients through both urgent needs and ongoing health journeys, ensuring continuity and quality of care.

What will you work on?
The Primary Care Nurse delivers client and family centered care services through health promotion and prevention activities, care interventions, and teaching based on the client’s needs, urgency of request and best practices. The primary care nurse ensures clients, families, caregivers, and communities are provided with ease of access to timely, person-centered, holistic, continuous and culturally safe quality health services. Responds to changing health care needs to achieve optimal health focusing on health promotion, disease prevention, living well with complex chronic conditions, and end-of-life care.

The Primary Care Nurse provides client and family-centered care through a trauma-informed approach, evidence-informed practice, and honoring Indigenous knowledge, wisdom and diversity. Establishes a dignifying, purposeful and trusting relationship with clients, promoting self-determination and independence. Encourages knowledge exchange in day-to day activities, and empowers clients to engage and connect within their communities. Applies a health equity, social justice, and social determinates of health lens to all key responsibilities. Ensures clients and their family members are supported in navigating the health care system.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

  • Current CPR- Basic Life Support required.

  • Current valid BC Driver’s License.

  • In certain primary care clinics and practice areas British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives RN certified practice may be required. (RN First Call, Remote Nursing, Sexually Transmitted Infections, and/or Contraceptive Management)
