The Conventional Facilities Engineer‑in‑Training Program is a structured, multi‑year development program designed to provide broad exposure to the key aspects of conventional Operations and Facilities Engineering at Canadian Natural.
The program begins with a one‑year Calgary‑based assignment, followed by two years in a field‑based role supporting our conventional assets. Upon successful completion of the field assignment, you will transition permanently to a Facilities Engineering position in the Calgary office, joining one of our Conventional Facilities teams.
Collaboration, creativity, and innovation are cornerstones of our engineering culture. You will work within a multi‑disciplinary team and benefit from both direct and indirect mentorship, enabling strong technical growth and professional development through hands‑on experience and exposure to real‑world operational challenges.

Job location: Calgary and one of our Conventional Field Offices for the 2-year field rotation (e.g. Fort St. John, Grande Prairie, Slave Lake, Bonnyville, Lloydminster, or Red Deer area)

Key Accountabilities:
- Identifying opportunities to enhance production, reduce costs, and improve facility reliability and safety
- Troubleshooting and resolving facility‑related issues
- Supporting debottlenecking or optimization initiatives, greenhouse gas reduction projects, and the implementation of new technologies
- Providing technical support to Operations and Production teams
- Interpretation and application of applicable codes, regulations, company standards, and material specifications
- Management of new and sustaining capital projects from scoping to close-out (including all permit and regulatory applications) through Canadian Natural’s Management of Change (MOC) and Project Management methodologies
- Promoting innovation with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability and Production Engineering input, ensuring optimal technologies and fit for purpose designs are implemented for each facility change
What You Bring to the Role:
- Recent or upcoming 2026 graduate from a Bachelor of Science in Engineering program
- Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA as a Member In Training immediately upon graduation
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a reasonably clean driver’s abstract
- Familiarity with and understanding of working in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Oil & Gas experience is considered an asset, previous engineering work experience as a student is preferred
- Mechanically inclined
- Enjoy solving complex problems, working collaboratively, and making a meaningful impact through engineering excellence.
