Duties:

Under the direction of the Manager, Patient Care Services, you will work as part of a team, providing services to people with complex mental illness and substance use disorders.

  • Implement and coordinate all therapeutic recreation programs in the Forensic Assessment and Rehabilitation 1 Units.
  • Develop therapeutic recreation programs and services in response to clients’ needs, expressed interests and/or based on best-practices consistent with the clinical direction and programming needs.
  • Ensure that program planning includes written goals and objectives, a description of the staff and space requirements necessary to implement the activity.
  • Research recreational and leisure opportunities that is suitable for those clients with substance use and concurrent disorders, many who are complex, severe or unstable.
  • Co-ordinate recreation services with other internal and external services and/or community agencies.
  • Supervise student placements and volunteers.
  • Facilitate and implement quality management and risk management activities for the Integrated Forensics Program.
  • Complete initial assessments, quarterly reports and annual reports in accordance with the ROHCG policies and procedures and TRO Standards of Practice.
  • Work within the interdisciplinary team to develop a recreation plan for clients in accordance with their needs, skills, goals, and functioning level.
  • Ensure that assistance or adaptations are provided to facilitate client participation in activities they wish to attend.
  • Provide outings and activities outside of the facility when indicted by the clinical team.
  • Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of the ROHCG, and policies of the Forensic Treatment Unit.
  • Ensure a work environment that is conducive to the Royal’s Anti-Racism, Harassment, and Discrimination Free Workplace Policy.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Recreation/Leisure Studies or an Allied Health Degree with a post-grad Therapeutic Recreation diploma will be considered.
  • Experience working with clients living with moderate to severe mental illness, substance use disorders, and concurrent disorders across the lifespan.
  • Knowledge of the impact of diagnosis on leisure functioning.
  • Ability to develop, plan and lead a variety of recreation therapy, leisure education and participation programs that are client-centered, evidence-based and outcome oriented.
  • Experience conducting leisure assessments, developing and delivering therapeutic programs, evaluation of programs and services, documenting to reflect client-centered outcomes and progress, and facilitating links with the community.
  • Experience working in a hospital, interdisciplinary setting is required
  • Experience with provision of individual and group programming is required, including goal setting.
  • Membership with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario is an asset.
  • Maintain workload measurement and data collection as required and input into the workload measurement system on a regular basis.
  • Driver’s license class G: Class F license is an asset.
  • English level A- in oral expression, oral comprehension, and preferred in reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.

Salary Range:

43.64 to 51.90 per hour
