About the role

This posting is for 1 temporary full-time position up to 18 months

Strathcona County is seeking a detail-oriented Architectural Drafting Technologist to support facility planning and space management across our municipal buildings. In this role, you will produce and maintain accurate architectural drawings, conduct site inspections, and ensure our space management systems reflect current and precise data. Your work will directly support the Accommodation Planner and contribute to the development of functional, well-designed spaces that serve our community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and update architectural drawings, schematics, and construction documents using Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam
  • Create detailed floorplans for renovations, signage, emergency evacuation routes, and wayfinding
  • Translate architectural sketches and design concepts into precise technical drawings
  • Conduct on-site inspections to verify building conditions and collect accurate spatial data
  • Measure and document room dimensions, furniture layouts, and occupancy details to inform planning and design
  • Produce new base floorplans and digitize existing layouts for reference and integration into County systems
  • Maintain drawing records and archives in compliance with County CAD standards and protocols
  • Collaborate with planners and project teams on space planning, office assignments, and accommodation forecasting
  • Provide architectural drawings and documentation to consultants and internal project teams as required
  • Assist in the development of corporate space standards and contribute to furniture lifecycle planning, including budgeting
  • Support planners and architects in space planning initiatives and long-term forecasting efforts
  • Assist in the preparation of permit and tender packages for construction and renovation projects
  • Develop scenario plans and cost estimates to support departmental accommodation forecasting and space optimization

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Diploma in Architectural Technology or Architectural Engineering Technology (or equivalent) with a focus on interior design or space planning, or the completion of a drafting diploma from a recognized institute of technology (or equivalent), plus 2 years of progressively responsible drafting experience
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) designation is an asset
  • Experience using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Architecture, Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite is required
  • Proficient in drafting accurate floor plans, schematics, area calculations, furniture layouts, and measured drawings for space management and accommodation planning
  • Strong understanding of building codes, design specifications, and construction practices
  • Experience with project and contract management is an asset
  • Strong communication skills, both in written and oral presentations and an ability to develop relationships and collaborate effectively with architects, planners and project teams
  • Adaptable and willing to learn new technologies and methods
