About the role

The City of Fredericton is seeking applications for employees specializing in fleet maintenance. Reporting primarily to a Foreman within the Fleet Services Division (Transit shop), the incumbent is responsible to perform truck and transport, and or Bus & Motor Coach maintenance. The successful applicant will utilize their acquired skills and previous work experience to conduct quality work within the division. The successful candidate will perform work at the journeyman level in the Truck and Transport & Bus & Motor Coach section based on acquired skills. Assignments can be given in the form of written or oral instructions. Work is subject to review through tests and the operating condition of vehicles & equipment after work is completed.

 

Qualifications Required:

  • Minimum prerequisite is Journeyman Truck & Transport Mechanic (Red Seal) certification OR finishing the final block training with demonstrated eligibility to challenge the Red Seal exam.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.
  • A clear Criminal Record Check as well as a clear Driver’s Abstract, are required as conditions of employment.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Primarily adjust, troubleshoot, diagnose, repair or replace parts and components of Transit Fleet and other related components.
  • Installation of electrical equipment and accessories including 2-way radios, pay terminals, cameras, and other associated technologies.
  • Perform preventative scheduled maintenance activities and emergency repairs as required to maintain fleet.
  • Complete reports to record problems and work performed.
  • Other related duties as required.

 

What You’ll Bring:

  • At least five years of relevant experience in Truck and Transport & Bus/Motorcoach Repair field. 
  • Strong knowledge of Motor coach and Transit/Bus fleets would be an asset.
  • Strong electrical knowledge of electrical and multiplex systems would be an asset. 
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of hybrid diesel-electric propulsion systems would be an asset.
  • Valid NB driver’s license, class V.
  • Knowledge of standard practices and equipment of Truck & Transport with focus on Bus & Motorcoach mechanic trade(s); knowledge of the principles of operation of gasoline and diesel engines and of mechanical repair methods applicable to a variety of fleet vehicles.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices of the trade. 
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to diagnose or trouble shoot engine and electrical problems.
  • Must have complete set of tools to perform the work listed above.
  • Knowledge of Fire Suppression Assets and equipment including pumps would be an asset.
  • Knowledge in Snow removal equipment and attachments, along with material spreading controls would be an asset.
  • Applicant must successfully pass a criminal record check prior to hire, and provide a drivers abstract.
