Your Opportunity The Department of Cell & Systems Biology promotes research and teaching in some of the most dynamic and vital areas of biological research. We facilitate the pursuit of cutting-edge research in the molecular life sciences and systems biology and embrace new methodologies and state-of-the-art technologies. Located in downtown Toronto and part of the University of Toronto, one of the world’s top research universities, our department is an ideal place to work, research and make a lasting impression in the field.

Under the general supervision of the Associate Chair, Undergraduate Studies, the incumbent provides administrative support and coordination for a selection of CSB courses at the first, second, third and fourth year levels.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Liaising with students and faculty to coordinate program activities
  • Coordinating program schedules with stakeholders
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms
  • Collecting and submitting grades
  • Coordinating the preparation and distribution of program and/or course material
  • Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
  • Updating and maintaining records
  • Preparing draft statistical reports and summaries from data collected

Essential Qualifications

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in life science or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum two years of experience providing administrative support and coordination for courses in the life science field in an academic setting, including but not limited to including preparing course and program material, maintaining course/student information and organizing program schedule
  • Experience providing detailed explanations regarding academic programs and course information to students
  • Experience interpreting and applying academic guidelines and procedures
  • Experience working with ROSI, ROSI Express, CIS and Quercus or similar University Student Information System
  • Experience using scanning software for scantron and survey analysis
  • Experience conducting data analysis, compiling data, and preparing and presenting reports
  • Experience with course and exam timetabling
  • Experience with coordinating grade submission and calculation
  • Experience coordinating the recruitment and training process for TAs
  • Demonstrated advance skills in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suites
  • Strong skills in content management tools such as Wordpress
  • Knowledge of Cell and System Biology courses
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid knowledge on academic polices and procedures including: general admission process, program/degree requirements, application process and role of registrar
  • Highly proficient and accurate organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Strong ability to exercise independent judgement, analysis, and problem solve and take appropriate action
  • Capacity to juggle concurrent priorities and meet a variety of timelines and deadlines
  • Knowledge of collective agreements including CUPE unit 1 and 3
