About the role
The Company Versaterm is a global public safety solutions company helping agencies transform how they serve their communities. Since 1977, we've been building an ecosystem of intuitive tools designed for public safety agencies, forensic labs, court systems, schools and other institutions. Through purposeful integrations and a selective growth strategy, we focus on improving workflows to help our customers achieve more efficient operations, better service and more just outcomes.
Our teams are driven by innovation, expertise and an unwavering commitment to customer success. As we continue to grow and expand our ecosystem, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to solutions that enhance community safety and transform the future of public safety technology. If you're passionate about making a meaningful difference, we'd love to hear from you.
The Role
We are seeking a seasoned Software Engineer III who thrives on building performant, scalable, and maintainable desktop and service-oriented applications. In this role, you will take ownership of complex technical initiatives spanning modern .NET (C#), WPF-based UI development, and backend service integration. You will collaborate across product, UX, and infrastructure teams, and help evolve architectural patterns that support long-term growth. If you enjoy solving deep technical challenges and optimizing user-facing applications, we'd love to meet you.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain advanced desktop applications using C# and WPF with a focus on performance, usability, and reliability.
- Implement and optimize REST and SOAP API integrations; contribute to internal service and API design.
- Engineer data access patterns leveraging SQL (PostgreSQL, SQL server, etc) and in-memory stores like Redis/Valkey.
- Refactor and modernize legacy Windows Forms components where appropriate.
- Contribute to architectural decisions (monolith evolution, modularization, microservice boundaries) with pragmatic trade-off analysis.
- Diagnose performance bottlenecks (UI responsiveness, memory usage, data latency) and implement targeted optimizations.
- Write robust unit, integration, and (where suitable) UI tests to ensure quality and regression safety.
- Provide technical mentorship and code reviews, raising the bar for engineering practices and maintainability.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to refine requirements into implementable solutions.
- Investigate and resolve complex production issues with a root-cause mindset.
- Continuously evaluate emerging tools (including AI-assisted development) to improve engineering velocity and product quality.
What You'll Bring
- 3–5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong proficiency in C# and the .NET ecosystem (including async programming, generics, LINQ).
- Hands-on experience building desktop applications with WPF (MVVM patterns, data binding, resource management).
- Solid understanding of relational databases and SQL (schema design, indexing, query optimization).
- Experience consuming and integrating REST APIs (serialization, error handling, versioning).
- Familiarity with Windows application lifecycle and deployment considerations.
- Proven ability to own complex features from design through delivery and support.
- Strong analytical and debugging skills with a structured approach to problem solving.
Impress Us With
- Experience with Redis or Valkey (caching strategies, pub/sub, key design).
- Experience with SOAP API integration (WSDL, service references, backward compatibility concerns).
- Experience with Windows Forms (for maintaining or migrating legacy modules).
- Familiarity with Linux (command line, text editors, deployment, service hosting).
- Experience with Syncfusion UI component libraries (custom theming, high-performance data grids/charting).
- Experience with ESRI platform (GIS APIs, spatial data handling) is a strong asset.
- Experience tuning performance in high-throughput applications (profiling tools, rendering pipeline awareness).
- Exposure to public safety domain – 911, Dispatch, Records, etc is an asset.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar).
- Knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
- Security best practices (secure coding, secrets management, authN/authZ patterns).
- Experience with architectural patterns: layered architecture, clean architecture, modular monolith.
- Use of AI tooling (Copilot, code generation assistants) to enhance productivity.
