POSITION TITLE:
ADOC
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director of Care reports directly to the Director of Care and is responsible for providing program management and leadership for River Glen Haven to ensure regulatory compliance and implementation of clinical and non-clinical care standards and best practices in accordance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 and ON Regulation 246/22.a. This position also provides both clinical and administrative support to the front-line team and is responsible for coordinating risk management and quality improvement activities by fostering a culture of continuous quality improvement with a focus and emphasis on residents, and safety. The incumbent provides leadership and support for quality and risk-related initiatives within an area of accountability.
The ADOC will advise on educational content to be provided to staff at orientation and through ongoing training with a primary focus on clinical practice. The ADOC is accountable for assisting with the management of quality nursing care and services within the home. They will work with the multidisciplinary team supporting and mentoring all departments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma or BScN degree from an accredited college or university program and Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Minimum 5 years of active Nursing Experience, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the long-term care sector.
- Experience performing activities that are client centered, while incorporating Quality Improvement Principles
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in analysis, measurement and evaluative methods, facilitation and presentation skills
- Demonstrated experience with best practice guidelines
- Demonstrated experience with the promotion and implementation of clinical best practices
- Demonstrated experience with health promotion and health education/teaching activities
- Knowledge of the legislation, guidelines, and regulations as they relate to the position and responsibilities of the Long-Term Care Sector.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, teamwork, initiative/self-management, accountability, flexibility and adaptability.
- Ability to deal cooperatively and effectively with all levels of staff, unions/employee/client groups and ability to foster cooperative/collaborative working relationships.
- Possess advanced knowledge of IPAC protocols
- Experience with electronic client management systems and basic computer skills
Schedule:
- 8 hour day shift Monday to Friday but may be asked to attend evening, night or weekend shifts in oversight
- Weekend availability during an outbreak within a 37.5 hour work week

- In charge in the absence of the Administrator/Director of Care/Assistant Director of Care
- Provides direction to the nursing team in all aspects of resident care
- Interprets nursing philosophy, and in collaboration with the Director of Care and nursing team establishes and implements goals and objectives.
- Provides direction to the Registered Nursing Staff, Registered Practical Nursing (RPN), as Personal Support Workers (PSWs) in the area of accountability
- Follows through on programs, and monitors new programs to ensure compliance
- Interprets MOHLTC standards to the nursing team and monitors compliance to standards through continuous quality improvement activities.
- Provides leadership and acts as a role model when dealing with staff, residents and family conflicts
- Acts as a coach for RNs, RPN’s and PSW’s in the clinical areas of accountability, personal and professional growth
- Contributes to the development of policies and procedures consistent with resident care practices, CNO, MOHLTC, and other applicable legislation
- Conducts rounds throughout the shift and monitors residents care and staff performance
- Provides support to staff through coaching, role modelling, listening, and assisting with conflict and problem resolution
- Initiates the concern/complaint form (CSR) when concerns are communicated by residents/families, follows up and submits CSR to the Director of Care/Assistant Director of Care
- Initiates the CIS for all applicable occurrences
- Conducts the initial investigation of all resident issues and allegations of abuse. Keeps the Administrator/Director of Care/ADOC informed of outcome(s) of investigation.
- Demonstrates sound knowledge of the resident bill of rights and monitors residents care to ensure staff respect residents’ rights.
Human Resources /Communication
- Effectively communicates with staff, residents and families
- Understands staffing patterns and scheduling activities for all departments.
- In the absence of the scheduler will replace staff as needed
- Monitors performance and contributes to the performance reviews of all staff as directed by the Director of Care or Assistant Director of Care
- Addresses all issues with staff in a professional manner
- Counsels' staff in areas of non-compliance, inappropriate and unprofessional behaviour, and reports to the Director of Care/Assistant Director of Care and Leads performance management in her/his area of accountability and assists other ADOCs as needed in the same
- Monitors and attends unit meetings
- Utilizes available technology to assist with communication
- Communicates with multidisciplinary team to ensure all aspects of resident care are met
- Communicates risk issues in report
- Completes and communicates daily reports to applicable recipients as directed by the Director of Care or Assistant Director of Care
Quality/Risk Management
- Conducts regular clinical chart audits to ensure compliance with documentation standards, internal policies and procedures, and MOHLTC program standards, and other quality management activities as directed by the Director of Care
- Assists with the evaluation of all resident program and services for relevance, quality, and effectiveness
- Identifies potential liability issues and takes action to minimize risks
Safety
- Adheres to Occupational Health and Safety practices
- Demonstrates knowledge of emergency codes and fire plans and participates in fire drills and mock disasters
- Promotes a safe working environment
- Monitors resident safety and oversees the initiation and revisions of care planning interventions consistent with alleviating and/or decreasing the presenting resident risk
- Reports to the MOHLTC all unusual occurrences as stipulated in the Program Standards Manual
- Investigates and reports employee work related accidents to the OH&S committee
- Initiates and amends and finalizes all Critical Incidences in area of accountability
Committee/team involvement
- Attends and Leads as directed by DOC all Registered staff meetings
- Attend and Leads as directed by DOC all designated committee meeting
- Leads programs assigned to her/his area of accountability
Professionalism/Work ethic
- Represents the facility in a professional manner when attending seminars, committees, and meetings with outside agencies.
- Adheres to the CNO standards of practice
- Demonstrates honesty and integrity in all activities.

Clinical

- Role Models and Directs interdisciplinary care conferences as scheduled
- Role Models and directs Interdisciplinary Team Rounds for her/his area of accountability
