JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Field Service Engineer / Technologist to support the installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of electrical power systems and industrial automation equipment. This highly visible, customer-facing role requires a hands-on professional who thrives in dynamic field environments and is passionate about delivering technical excellence while building strong customer relationships.

The ideal candidate will bring expertise in low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical equipment, along with experience supporting drives, automation systems, and power distribution assets. This position offers the opportunity to work on critical infrastructure projects while helping customers improve reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.

Perform commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and testing of low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical equipment. Diagnose and resolve complex electrical and control system issues using advanced troubleshooting techniques and test equipment. Support the installation, startup, and optimization of variable frequency drives (VFDs) and motor control systems. Assist in the development and execution of testing, inspection, and commissioning procedures. Utilize advanced testing equipment to evaluate electrical system performance and identify root causes of failures. Configure, test, and troubleshoot protective relays and associated protection schemes. Support automation and control system activities, including PLC-based systems and related field devices. Develop and maintain process flow diagrams, test plans, work instructions, and technical documentation. Collaborate closely with engineering, project management, operations, and customer teams to successfully execute projects and service activities. Provide technical expertise and recommendations that improve system reliability, safety, and performance. Travel as required to customer locations throughout Canada to support project execution and maintenance activities.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Bilingual in French and English Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. 4+ years of hands-on experience with low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical equipment, including power transformers, switchgear, motor control systems, protective relays, and power distribution assets. Experience commissioning, maintaining, troubleshooting, and testing electrical power systems in industrial, utility, or infrastructure environments. Hands-on experience with power transformers, including testing, diagnostics, inspections, commissioning, maintenance, and field troubleshooting. Experience troubleshooting and supporting Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and associated control systems. Knowledge of protective relays, electrical protection schemes, and power system troubleshooting. Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single-line drawings, and technical documentation. Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in field environments. Excellent customer-facing communication and stakeholder management skills. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively throughout Canada as required.

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Experience with transformer testing methods such as insulation resistance (Megger), turns ratio (TTR), winding resistance, power factor, and oil analysis. PLC programming and troubleshooting experience. Industrial automation and controls experience. Previous commissioning or startup experience within utilities, substations, renewable energy, power generation, or transmission and distribution environments. Project management or project coordination experience. Experience identifying process improvements and implementing sustainable solutions.
