Theidealcandidate****should:

  • Possess broad background and extensive knowledge of best practices, methods and strategies for working with and teaching children with complex needs
  • Have demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, colleagues, parents and other stakeholders
  • Be adaptable. Children are busy and active – so you are too. Adaptability is important because every day will be different and the candidate will have to navigate their way through rapidly changing environments with enthusiasm, problem-solving skills and humour
  • Be flexible, curious, creative, and able to multi-task in our ever-evolving world in pediatrics
  • Enjoy working with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver child-focused services

ResponsibilitiesIncludeto:

  • Plan and Implement programs following Alberta Education ECS guidelines
  • Provide developmentally appropriate and engaging learning opportunities to special education children in a vibrant play-based program
  • Establish and maintain a classroom that is safe, stimulating, and age appropriate
  • Provide written reports or updates relating to the child's progress and goals as described in their IPP'S
  • Supervise and lead a team of paraprofessionals, providing clear direction and setting high expectations

Qualifications:

  • Must have an education degree from a recognized Canadian university
  • Must have Alberta Interim/Permanent Teacher Certificate
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Experience supporting children that display challenging behaviour or have disabilities is preferred
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students

Personal suitability NOTE: This position requires lifting and carrying demands that require the ability to bend at the waist, stoop, and twist frequently, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, the ability to carry, push and pull up to 50 lbs, and the ability to stand, walk and sit frequently.

At Providence, we focus on all areas of a child’s learning and development. Our educational and therapeutic programs provide stimulating and challenging activities in a fun learning environment. Each school provides enhanced learning experiences through small class sizes and a specialized environment that includes multi- sensory rooms, music, gymnasiums and playgrounds.

Providence employs a diverse transdisciplinary team to meet each child’s individual needs. Each class is facilitated by a certified teacher with support from our therapists and teaching/therapeutic assistants. Through our community programs, we work together with educators in the communities we serve.

Providence ECS programs are funded by Alberta Education and follow the Early Childhood Services Regulations under the School Act. As a private ECS operator, Providence is a member of the Association of Independent Schools and Colleges in Alberta (AISCA).
