The Accounting Technician is integral to our clients' financial operations, performing essential accounting tasks while fostering strong client relationships. In this role you will develop solid understanding of QuickBooks Online (QBO) to efficiently manage tasks such as bank reconciliations, revenue recording and accounts receivable reconciliations. You will be assisting with onboarding clients in transitioning their bookkeeping methods to QBO, offering personalized support and training. Responsibilities also include preparing financial schedules, adjusting journal entries, and maintaining communication with clients and the CRA to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs monthly reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and addressing any discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile customer billing records, follow up on outstanding balances, and resolve discrepancies efficiently.
  • Prepare year-end engagements, including working papers, financial statements, and T2 corporate tax returns.
  • Prepare compilation engagements in accordance with applicable standards and firm procedures.
  • Prepare personal income tax returns (T1s) during tax season, ensuring accuracy and compliance with current tax laws.
  • Support personal tax preparation by completing T1 income tax returns during tax season.
  • Prepare and reconcile T3, T4, T5, and T5018 information returns.
  • Perform GST reconciliations and prepare and file GST returns.
  • Maintains regular contact with clients to address accounting inquiries, review financial transactions, and provide guidance on account balances.
  • Act as a primary point of contact with taxation authorities (CRA), responding to inquiries, reviewing correspondence, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
  • Prepare adjusting journal entries, maintain financial schedules, and support financial reporting processes.
  • Complete all assigned tasks within established time budgets and deadlines, ensuring efficient use of resources while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners to resolve financial concerns and ensure smooth operations.
  • Perform other accounting-related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Post secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is an asset.
  • 0-4 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or similar roles.
  • Solid understanding of QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with tax return preparation for individuals or small businesses, as well as an understanding of corporate taxation.
  • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy in financial tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate with colleagues and clients.
