About the role

Are you passionate about hands-on learning and supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals? Thompson Rivers University (TRU) is looking for a skilled Simulation Technician to join our Simulation Based Learning (SBL) Centre in the School of Nursing. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a technical environment, enjoys problem-solving, and takes pride in making simulation-based education run seamlessly.

In this role, you’ll work closely with the Director, SBL and faculty to ensure our state-of-the-art patient care simulation equipment and nursing lab are ready for action. You’ll handle everything from setup to troubleshooting, keeping our simulators, A/V systems, and lab resources in top condition. Your work will directly impact the quality of nursing education at TRU, helping students gain critical skills in a safe, supportive environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot full-body patient simulators, related software, and multimedia equipment.
  • Prepare and set up simulation scenarios, including A/V capture and playback for debriefing sessions.
  • Maintain lab equipment, manage software updates, and ensure safety and certification standards are met.
  • Oversee inventory control, order supplies, and liaise with vendors for medical equipment and pharmaceuticals.
  • Provide technical training to faculty on simulator use and simulation technology.
  • Support research and special projects by collecting data, producing reports, and assisting with grant-related work.
  • Manage scheduling, record keeping, and day-to-day lab operations.

What You Bring

  • Grade 12 plus an Associate Degree, 2-year diploma, or equivalent post-secondary education.
  • At least 3 years of related lab or technical field experience.
  • WHMIS certification.
  • Proficiency in computer programming concepts, hardware/software applications, MS Office Suite, and A/V systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work with complex simulation software.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of safe laboratory practices and budget management.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
