About Island Gold District: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Through ongoing exploration success, Island Gold District’s Mineral Reserves and Resources have continued to grow in size and quality. Role Overview/Purpose:
The Dewatering Technician will be responsible for a variety of tasks including operating equipment in site facilities and general maintenance. The incumbent will use considerable judgment in making decisions and be able to perform all tasks in accordance with Alamos’ workplace safety rules and regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Ensure all tasks are completed in a safe, environmentally conscious manner and compliant with all company policies and procedures
- Meet requirements of the site water management key performance indicators including, but not limited to pumping, HDPE pipe fusing and installation, refueling and winterization of plant and equipment
- Operate telehandler, skid steer, light towers and diesel pump sets
- Participate in safety / toolbox meetings
- Maintain a clean work area and equipment and perform work in a safe and orderly manner
- Other tasks as assigned
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience as a laborer and equipment operator with demonstrated commitment to safety
- Completed Secondary School Diploma or GED
- Slinging and rigging training
- Completion of a mechanical-related program in a post-secondary institution is an asset or have acquired qualifications of a trade by progressively advancing through
- an apprenticeship program
- Mechanical aptitude required with sound knowledge of a variety of diesel pump sets, pipe fitting, HDPE piping
- Experience operating telehandlers, skid steers and similar equipment
- Solid communication skills, able to understand and follow directions accurately and safely
- Knowledge of WHMIS, which includes familiarity of chemical products, use, disposal, and Safety Data Sheets applications
- Possess a valid Canadian driver’s license and clear driver’s abstract
- Ability to thrive in an environment of change; must be creative and flexible
Physical requirements:
- Role is physically demanding
- Must be capable of working in adverse conditions and comfortable working outside in inclement weather
- Must be capable of lifting/carrying up to 25 kg, walking on rough terrain, standing for prolonged periods, climbing stairs and ladders, working at heights, crouching, kneeling, bending, twisting, operating equipment
Working Conditions:
- 7x7 rotation
- Position is subject to callouts
- Pay or shift range: $31.72 CAD to $52.07 CAD
