ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Program Manager, Solid Waste & Diversion and under the guidance and direction of Project Coordinators; is responsible for supporting and coordinating activities related to sustainable waste management programs and the Integrated Waste Management Master Plan initiatives (SM4RT Living Plan); monitoring data and specifications related to program participation; completing assigned projects related to the business needs of the unit; coordinating meetings, training and special events; maintaining and tracking of online waste look up tool; organizing and delivering regular customer satisfaction surveys; supporting the delivery of reduction, reuse, recycling initiatives and continuous improvement through promotion and education; assisting Project Coordinators with the research and implementation of all pilots programs and initiatives.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Support the implementation of SM4RT Living Plan initiatives in multi-residential, Composting, Reuse and Food Waste Reduction, program areas as well as other reuse initiatives.

  • Distribute promotion and education materials to all internal and external stakeholders such as local municipalities, Regional facilities, multi-residential building and local businesses.

  • Organize multi-residential waste audits with Waste Operations to measure and monitor programs.

  • Delivery and organize regular waste generation rate audits at multi-residential buildings.

  • Plan and coordinate projects, events, training sessions and meetings; coordinates the Strategic Waste Policy Committee and Multi-Residential Working Group meetings with Local Municipal partners.

  • Regularly review and monitor information related to waste management on the York Regional web site and local municipalities’ websites. Assist with site tours to internal and external partners at various waste depots as required.

  • Respond to inquiries and resolves concerns, as appropriate.

  • Draft responses to resident inquiries for review by a Project Coordinator.

  • Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with Branch or Department objectives.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Successful completion of a College Diploma in Environmental Studies/Sciences, Business or a related field, approved equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in waste management, including pilot and program implementation; coordination of administrative processes, events and projects.

  • Knowledge of and experience with waste management industry procedures, processes and programs.

  • Knowledge of provincial waste management legislation such as Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act.

  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer focus, communication, collaboration and personal ownership.

  • Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation and scheduling applications.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills to coordinate delivery and support of program and pilot implementation and special events/sessions.

  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills to communicate with the public.

  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license free of serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act.

  • Ability to learn software applications (i.e. survey software, dashboard/database).

  • Ability to travel to offsite locations in a timely and efficient manner, as required.

  • Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, as required.

  • Ability to work outdoors.
