The Registered Practical Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care in a multidisciplinary, family centred care environment. The ideal candidate will bring a confident and resourceful attitude in the face of challenges, and have the motivation to deliver results in a complex and demanding environment.

Qualifications:

  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);
  • Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited community college;

*Minimum of one year of recent (within two years) Birthing Centre experience [Ante Partum, Post Partum (Combined Care)] *or minimum of 3 years of recent (within four years) Acute Care Experience in Medicine, Surgery, Emergency or Operating Room required

  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (Ontario Heart & Stroke guidelines preferred) required;

  • competency in: insertion and removal of urinary catheters and removal of intravenous;

  • Competent and able to perform CPR at a Basic Cardiac Life Support level;

  • Breastfeeding course or demonstrated experience an asset;

  • Completion of Neonatal Resuscitation course (within 3 months of hire) required,

  • Completion of Health Assessment and Medication courses;

  • Demonstrated experience in performing venipuncture an asset;

  • Demonstrated skills in providing patient education and sharing knowledge of expected outcomes and care;

  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and provide care in a fast paced, high pressure environment;

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to communicate effectively and collaborate well with patients, families, other care providers and the community

  • Demonstrated excellent documentation skills;

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work - independently and within a multidisciplinary team and exercise sound judgement;

  • Ability to perform essential duties of the position and all RPN nursing and related duties to the full scope of their practice ;

  • Must have a satisfactory performance record;

  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public; and

  • Demonstrated understanding of and, commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety program and practices including staff, patient, and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area.
