The Opportunity
The Assistant Vice President, Commercial Asset Management provides strategic leadership and end-to-end oversight of the commercial asset management function. This role is accountable for the performance, efficiency, and risk management of commercial asset management operations, ensuring strong execution across the mortgage lifecycle.
The AVP leads the Commercial Asset Management teams, drives team engagement, and oversees key departmental initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and fostering a high-performing, collaborative culture. The role is responsible for overseeing collections and annual financial reporting, mitigating risk, improving processes, and driving efficiencies to support business growth and operational excellence.
Working in close partnership with investors, internal stakeholders, and Finance, the AVP ensures alignment of commercial asset management strategy, reporting, controls, and performance outcomes.
How You Will Contribute
Key responsibilities include:
Lead and oversee the teams, promoting strong team engagement, development, accountability, and a high-performance culture. Oversee operations, including collections, annual financial reporting, portfolio monitoring, borrower post funding requirements, and service delivery standards. Provide strategic oversight of borrower reporting and annual financial reporting processes, ensuring required deliverables are monitored, escalated, and completed in alignment with internal standards, investor expectations, regulatory requirements, and portfolio risk management objectives. Manage CMHC post-funding conditions, ensuring requirements are tracked, completed, escalated, and reported in accordance with CMHC expectations and internal standards. Act as a subject matter expert on CMHC requirements, providing guidance to the team and internal stakeholders on CMHC-related policies, procedures, reporting requirements, and compliance expectations. Identify, assess, and mitigate operational, borrower, investor, and portfolio risks through effective controls, proactive monitoring, and timely escalation. Lead departmental initiatives focused on process improvement, scalability, workflow optimization, and operational efficiency. Partner with investors, internal stakeholders, and Finance to support commercial asset management strategy, reporting alignment, and performance outcomes. Act as a key liaison across underwriting, servicing, capital markets, Finance, and other internal departments to ensure seamless coordination and delivery. Establish, monitor, and drive accountability for departmental KPIs, ensuring continuous performance improvement, transparency, and measurable results. Provide oversight of reporting and analytics, delivering insights into portfolio performance, collection rates, annual financial reporting, and operational metrics. Maintain, improve, and ensure execution of policies and procedures for Commercial Asset Management. Build and manage education and training initiatives for new and existing employees. Coordinate interdepartmental efficiencies to support high-quality commercial mortgage servicing, reporting, and asset management. Manage and resolve escalations, providing guidance and support on complex borrowers, investors, and operational matters. Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and development support to team members. Stay current with industry, regulatory, investor, and market trends impacting commercial asset management. Adhere to policies and procedures to ensure AML requirements are met, when applicable.
The Experience You Need
Industry Experience: 7-10 Years of progressive experience in commercial mortgages, commercial lending, or real estate finance Leadership (or Management) Experience : 7-10 Years experience in leadership of operational teams. Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, commerce, law, accounting, or a related field. Language Requirements: English requirement.

External Customers Senior management at other financial institutions, Investors, Auditors, Regulators, Brokers, Canada Mortgage Housing Corporation, Appraisers, Solicitors, and Commercial Customers/Borrowers
Internal Customers: Interdepartmental team members including Finance, and Capital Markets to ensure a fluid and transparent First National customer experience
